Hi Gaz,
Great to have some proper detail on the engine. Read your article in RF last night - good man. See you're sticking with a NA YB - not tempted to go for a more modern engine - duratech etc? Much difference expense wise? Reason for asking is that I currently have a vulcan xflow in my RS & am thinking of putting a more correct engine back in & wondering about tuning/cost etc.
I live in South London (car is in storage elsewhere) - pls shout if you guys are going any Ford events/meets as haven't got myself plugged into the London scene yet...
Cheers

The blue/brown colour on the rods was most likey from Nov 07 when the dry sump belt snapped and the oil pressure dropped off too nought . Then in Dec 08 i did an oil change , primed the oil pump and started the car . After a few seconds the oil pressure went to nought and i sat there watching it and waiting for it too rise for 30secs before i switched it off . Or maybe it was because i had water mixing with the oil for 6 months before i found out the cause . Either way it's foooooked now !!!!!!sigpic 2.1 ATMO YB POWER .
Tick tock goes the clock and the clock don't lie .
12.4sec to 109mph With NO turbo , NO gay trailer , NO slicks , NO gas , NO race fuel and NO bits missing . Beat that !!!!

I didn't bother with duratecs etc because they are crap unless you spend £10,000+ on bits and then another few bob getting them too fit in an escort . The pinto based 16v engines are far cheaper and just as fast/faster if built right . Plus they bolt straight in after 5 mins !!!!!!sigpic 2.1 ATMO YB POWER .

Here's a closer look at the rods with their bearings in place . No2 is on the left and no1 is on the right (the knackerd one) . Only the bearings in no1 are shot , all the other 3 are fine

Here's a closer look at the crank , it looks fine considering the state of the bearings in no1

I guess you've spent a fair bit on that engine, new rods / pistons / head mods & build and are now going to have to do it all over again with a new block - that's painful on the wallet.
Have you thought about putting a Duratec in it? You can buy these engines new pretty cheap now & you won't have the hassle of inherent design flaws with older engine technology. Plus there are plenty of reliable engine builders to choose from. Put your money into the rods and pistons for the duratec would be my advice - maybe a lesson to be learned from your experience - which is good to share on a forum like this.
Hope you get it sorted.

I bought my engine secondhand and it was cheap (only £1000 more than my pinto i sold) . I've since had the head refurbed + made better too increase speed and fingers crossed the bottom end will cost about £500 in machining + parts to re-do (unless it needs new rods of course +£600) so all in all not bad really .
I'd never buy a Duratec unless i could afford a top notch one , even then i'm already as fast as all of those so far that have turned up fitted inside a normal street legal Escort . Personally i would rather have a Warrior , a Millington or a 2.3 atmo cossie over a Mazda duratec anyday .sigpic 2.1 ATMO YB POWER .

The Bottom end should be cheap too rebuild as well and then i should go even faster in 2009 . Hoping for 1/4mile times under 13secs !!!!!! .......sigpic 2.1 ATMO YB POWER .
