      • Ok folks we've been tweaking the car on the rollers today with some interesting results

        1= The new single box exhaust : Much louder than the old twin box Ashley one i had and it booms like fooook at 4000revs on the motorway . Poxy stainless steel is a fooooker for this but i knew it would do it when he made it so was ready . Anyway it's all done for power/performance so then i find out that it did foook all !!!!!!! No power gain at all .

        2= Cam timing : We swung both cams about and the inlet cam was already spot on but the exhaust cam moved the torque curve about . We've shifted the torque up the rev range a bit which is good .

        3= Mid-range mapping : Chris had already done the full throttle map last time but the rest was still on the old engine settings so he spent most of todays time sorting it out for me . He got the -20bhp dip at 5200revs back up so i now have a perfect flat power delivery from low rpm through to the limiter . We settled for a "peak" bhp reading of 218bhp with 174 ibs'ft of torque . This don't sound much but this is Dyno-Dynamics power so be affraid , lol !!!!!!!

        Conclusion = The temperature in the dyno area was alot hotter than last time i was there so we where seeing less power because of this (or the new exhaust isn't working). The car was down 10bhp today when i first arrived and although the dyno corrects for air temperature a car always makes more power when the air is cool compared to when the air is hot . Anyway the proof of the pudding is in the eating and fooooooook me does it fly . The 12.5sec pass is on the way

                      It's weird that my 16v power figures are far less than what everyone else has (on other dynos) . Most people get 225-245 easily with an old set of 48's and clockwork ignition . Very strange and it seems that whatever we do the power stops at the 215-222bhp level , all that happens is when i improve the breathing the "peak" power level stays about the same but the power band increases instead . This is good though but i think the engines reached it's peak power potential with the cams it's running so i ned to changed them for something else next . The problem is it may then make more "peak" power but for less time and then go fooooookin slower !!!!!!

                      • Ok , after several hours research and phone calls this is the plan .

                        1= Leave the car as it is for now and then see how fast it goes at the Pod with the new mapping , exhaust system and exhaust cam timing setting . If it goes faster than before then i'm pretty sure that peak performance has been reached on this spec . I could strip it out and lose all the heavy bits and blast into the 11's on street rubber but i'm going to try something else first .

                        2= Swop the cams for newer profiles with more lift and less duration and see what happens . If it goes faster then job done but if it makes more power but goes slower then i can just swop back to the old ones again !!!!!

                        3= If the new cams work and the car goes faster then the new goal will be 11sec passes on 175mm wide street rubber (so do it with power and not grip) and without lightening the car so still with all the heavy bits fitted (mmmmm comfy) .

                        Can it be done ? Is it possible with only 2.1 litres and no power adders ? Who knows but it's gonna be emotional

                            • Cheers Mark . Toby Kent has made me this as well in a bid to save alternators from certain death (killed 6x of them in 3000 miles ) . It's a larger pulley wheel which will slow the alternator down by 20% so they will stay under 7000revs at all times . Hope it works as i'm sick of spending money on poxy alternators when i could be buying something nice instead . Foooooooook me is it shiney , if the classic Ford show is sunny then you best squint or get blinded , lol .

                              • do the alternators vibrate apart?
                                welding the through bolts helps!!
                                exhaust is nice, under axle is the way foreward.
                                got a 2 1/2 inch system and prepfab box on my pinto and that aint quiet either
