  • It was the thing to do with that type of thing once apon a time, a friend of mind had a 70's German VW bus on a Y plate come to think of it

    • It would have gained the Y plate coming back into the country in 1982/83.

I had a Mk1 RS2000 on a V plate that came into the UK from spain in 1978.
Now DVLA give you an age related plate.
If the car was originally registerd in the UK & you can prove what it's original reg number was DVLA will re issue the original number.
Or if you can prove when the car was built if it has never had a UK plate they will issue an age related number. Again you have to prove the vehicles age.
      Mark....

      • I would keep it on a Y plate just for the rarity value , you certainly aren't gonna meet another one coming the other way .......

Yes, I'm not going to change it. I seem to remember there was an X reg mk2 RS2000 doing the rounds at one time too...

            • looks a decent enough shell that, good inner wings, and good colour

Dont think the rear bumper will pass the MOT with bungy cords though

Yes, its a good shell. The wing rails need replacing - and it has a sunroof which I want to get rid of - but apart from that its a good 'un.

I've owned it for 17 years - its been off the road in dry storage for about the last 10 of those. Its probably going to be another year or two before I get the time and space to do anything with it though..

                ...but I still love it.

                  • Anyway.... back to the rally car. I still don't have it back from getting the exhaust made, but Dave sent me these pictures tonight from when he sprayed the car a few weeks ago:

The alloy arches had taken a bit of a beating:

                    He panel beat the arches:

The arches were painted off the car:

...and Dave standing next to his work looking proud:

Quite possibly - only a year later than I'd originally intended..

There is the 'Mid Norfolk Gravel Stages' coming up in October that I like the sound of - so that's something to aim for....

                              • with wheel travel like that, you'll be able to do the Dakar

looks nice, any reason why the arches were painted seperately ?
