(OK, so I'm long overdue an update... sorry...)

All the front end panels are now on. Front panel, slam panel, radiator crossmember and wings:

So then I set about chopping the wings up to fit the forest arches:

Followed by the new front spoiler:

Seat rails are in both sides. The drivers side has been tricky as I've fitted an exhaust tunnel where the seat mounts need to go. I'm pretty tall, so having the seat tubes higher than the exhaust tunnel would leave the seat far too high. So, the inside of my seat will bolt directly to the exhaust tunnel:

Its a bit tight - but just fits. And my head clears the roof:

Latest adaptation. I recycled my old hydraulic handbrake lever to make this:

Basically, I'm keeping the standard handbrake which will provide a cable operation - to keep the scrutineers happy. But I've also got an upright hydraulic lever too. I did something similar before, but I had a lever at the front that connected to a master cylinder which was in the regular handbrake position - and also pulled on a cable. This new setup is a lot simpler:

    View from passenger side:

Next I need to turn the car around and then sort the passenger side seat mounts...

ooooh - look what I collected on Friday:

So I did a quick trial fitting:

One of the dry sump pipes needs rerouting as it was fouling on the steering rack mount, otherwise looks a good fit:

I should just about get an air box in here over those trumpets, but it will be pretty tight:

So that's allowed me to get the engine mounts sorted. Now the dummy engine is back in ready for exhaust fabrication.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. The car is away being painted at the moment (taking a lot longer than I thought it would, but its being done for free by a mate so I can't complain)

I also became a dad on the 7th April, so I've been pretty busy and am still coming to terms with the lack of sleep...

I promise there'll be a full update with lots of pics when I get the car back.

Hi, yes I may end up going that route, but I had problems wth under-bonnet heat when running the Zetec, so I want to get a cold-air feed sorted really.

                    • this is really coming on well. well done, engine looks the biz

I notice with the emergency button on your console, you have that lump of ali sticking out above right of it , not dangerous for the hand in an emergency ?

I see what you mean, but the pics are a bit deceptive, it doesn't stick out that far. Its the bit that the cable pulls against for the external battery cut-off.

                          • Well, its been a long while since my last update on the progress of the rally car....

The shell has been painted and then went immediately to have an exhaust made. I'm hoping to get it back this weekend or next week so I can crack on with it.

In the meantime though, I thought I'd post a couple of pics of my other long term project. I had to move it earlier this week, so it was a good opportunity to take some pics.

It is my 1980 (despite the Y plate) Signal Orange RS2000. I've owned it since I was 18. When it eventually hits the road again it will be Cossie powered.

According to the bloke I bought it off, it was registered/used in Germany when it was new (original RHD though), by a Brit in the forces. He was stationed out there for a couple of years and when he came back he brought it with him and it was given a plate for that year. No idea if that's true or not though.

Seems odd doesn't it. The V5 shows the date as 1980, so I don't know why DVLA didn't give it a V or W plate. I think its a bit of a lottery with them sometimes...
