Mk1gaz raves on about how comfy his Escort is, but have you tried to drive round a track in comfy seats.
Right hand corners are the worst as you end up on your passengers lap, but Gaz might like that
Then again maybe not hence the racing in straight lines for 12 seconds at a time.

        Lol! Mark

If it was me I'd stay pinto too!
Or even the crossflow, great little engine bit heavy but lots of cheap fun

The more power you have the more stress on things and there is always the next weak link in the chain, engines are like time bombs
No matter what you spend, they have to be used within their limits and they are ok, miss a gear and over rev the engine, might not go bang then but the fatigue has started! Tick tick boom!

I built a "comfy" road car that kicks arse on streets and drag strips for a laugh . I don't want a shitty track car/drag race car with racing seats , plastic + perspex and half the car missing riding about on a gay trailer . For some reason it's the track car lot who do all the sobbing usually cos they can't keep up in a proper race , lol . The drag car lot never moan and sob , they appeciate a normal Escort with power doing the buisness . Oh yes .

Well i'm sure if i had built a "trackday car" it too would have a trailer and half the bits missing too make it light .
Still a normal street car at full weight going 0-109mph in 12secs just pulling away normally on cold tyres with the heater on has it's advantages !!! Unlucky

A standard mk1 mex is 850kg. Goldys stripped out track car is 904kg so you,ve lost the weigh argument then......

i told you the spec of my car mk1 gaz you are not listening i want to compare my car on the track to see if its worth upgrading to 16 valves , i am not some e bay car builder i have owned and raced for 26years i have more trophys on my shelf than you have worn out back tyres ! Every thing on my car is done by me and as for drag racing i grew out of that in my mid twentys, the escort is one of the best handling cars ford has ever made and when set up right on the track they are awsome you are missing out on enjoyment and learning there is more to it than an engine knowledge you do not have !

Last time i weighed it 950 kilos (no driver) . Should be a bit lighter this year and alot faster . You'll find out soon enough as i'm trying too run a low 12sec straight off the street with the heater on , lol .

It's worth upgrading to 16v because 16v engines breath more air at high revs = more power . Hence all the fastest cars will have 16v engines (street , drag strip , rally , circuit racing , trackday homos etc) .
You should try drag racing as it's just timed acceleration so very important even for a trackday car (when off it's trailer , lol) because you are supposed too accelerate between corners as well .
Plenty of so-called fast cars out there but most of them are shite slow when they come up Santa Pod giving it the big one . Just an observation of mine over the years but i'm sure yours won't be .
