the car is most probably worth at least £2/3k as it looks fairly complete and is a genuine car from what can be made out in the pics , it could well go for more if put on ebay .

i am just glad i have a one owner twin cam with plenty of pics to prove its provenance as well

but there are many more copies than original cars out there , that is why an original avo rs car will fetch good money even if it is a bit rotten.

ps you would get at least £200s for the seats for retrimming so come on guys keep it real.

ill agree with whats said above...you could be looking at min 2k....ive seen rot boxes sell for more....that shell looks saveable...get it bought & restored... .....my mate had a mk1 mex but it caught fire lucky escape for him and the family but not for the car...the car was on the cover of havoc many moons ago

I don't think 2-3K for that is realistic, 1K possibly but not 3.

It'll cost at least 10 to get it anywhere near nice, and what's it worth then 12-14 at best.

I wouldn't pay more than at absolute most 1,500. Wait a few more months if people need money decent cars will drop taking rot box prices down with them.

can't last forever, those that got out recently will be able to bide their time and buy something nice for less than they sold their's for soon.

          99% of all RS1600 & RS1800 Fakes ?????

It always starts with the most desirable models first (rs1600 , rs1800,twin cam) and then filters down to the common sporting models (mexico,rs2000 etc) as the log books get used up . They were swopping I.D.'s from twin cams , rs1600's etc onto mexico shells when i was a teenager and then started making rs2000's from mexicos (cos they were worth more) . I know of lots and still see some of them at shows today posing as the "real" thing !!!!!!!
This seems to be a very wild comment to make.
As the owner of one of the above mentioned cars 1800 do I assume that it is a also fake ? ( I dont think so). Yes there are some cars built up from log books in recent times but 99% of them fakes no way. I am sure the AVO RS1600 owners would also have some thing to say on this.

I think what was meant is that (not so much road-going/ex-showroom cars) but old rally cars were just reshelled Mk1s.

This has been going on since day one, car written off, buy a cheap shell and swap bits over and call it a "genuine" car

thís would tend to happen to the RSs as they were worth doing it to and there probably is the odd RS 18 that is not quite as original as it is "supposed" to be.

As we have seen of late as soon as the market takes off people with V5s start coming out of the woodwork selling Mex's, cars that have been crushed more than 10-15 years ago, but there identities "live on"

There's a lot of naughty people out there

Yes sorry mate but it's true . I reckon 99% are fakes . for example ford made 1100 rs1600's of which imediately 1000 of them went into motorsport (so got foooooked up , crashed + reshelled etc) . The few remaning Road ones got bought by rally wanna bee's and got stuffed into hedges , trees, etc , rusted away , caught fire , blew up 10 times etc etc and disappeared . The log books lived on though and years later they started appearing on mexicos etc . You would always get reshelled mexicos with the old rs1600 log books and the owner always said he sold the BDA and fitted a x-flow cos it was cheaper . I bought an RS1600 20 years ago and they're were so many fakes back then it was a joke , unless you had the factory stamped no's on the shell , dealer service books to trace it's history , matching engine numbers etc it was a nightmare even then . With todays values and far superior craftmanship and spares network i could build a "geniune" rs1600 from a logg book and you'ld never know , plus i'd get £30,000 for it !!!!!!!!

I know a few as well , they was all at it back in the 80's cos a BDA was worth £8,000 then (sounds cheap now) . The concours RS buffty scene was just starting to take off and a BDA was (still is) the holy grale of escorts so they all wanted one . The only problem was that there were no cars but lots of logg books !!!!!!!
RS mk1 and 2 cars back then weren't as stunning as they are today , most were rotten as foooook heaps of shite and much nicer standard shells were on every street corner and cheap at £300 . Some people even stole them and reshelled they're rotten , crash damaged , patched up etc etc BDA rally cars , rs2000's , mexicos etc into them making a large sum of cash into the bargain .
You could buy logg books from the motoring news every week as the rally brigade would smash them up everyday then sell up and buy a new toyota celica !!!!!!!
I used to buy rusty , mot failed , blown engined , mexico mk1's for approx £500-£1000 strip them and flogg the bits on . I still had some log books off them up until a few years back but you can guess where they are know can't you ? No doubt polished up on club stands built onto 1100's , heaven forbid !!!!!!!

Even so called reputable MK1 restoration people are doing it.
I'm waiting to see if they declare it when the car is advertised for sale

I would have thought someone parting with 6-7 K for a Harrier would be somewhat pi$$ed off to find out it isn't a "genuine" Harrier.

Worth about 3.5 K less I should have thought

Buying a fake Harrier etc is not too bad really cos any escort mk1/2 is worth about the same wiether it's a Harrier , sport , mexico , rs2000 etc or modded 1100L . You'll still sell any escort for a good price and get most/all of your cash back so there's nothing too worry about .
Buying the exotic rare models (rs1600,rs1800,twin cam) is a different story though , an original car with original engine + history etc is worth a huge sum at present and buying a fake is the buyers worse nightmare . You could lose £10,000+ if the fake isn't done right . The best fakes will use clean mexico shells of the correct type/year etc and then your ex- rally car BDA logg box and chassis no's . It's then very hard too dispute a cars originality UNTIL an old owner pops out of the woodwork and tells everyone !!!!!!!
