mk1 mex how much to pay

might have the chance of a mk1 mexico in black n reg only seen photos and dont yet have a price yet god know how much i should pay for this anyone got a ball park figure on how much its worth . heres a few pics not to good i know but any help would be welcome

brian how rare is a mex in original black and i was thinking no more than a grand

I would say about a grand.
In the last AVO mag it states that the club knows of 54 black Mexicos.
Out of the 15 colours that were available over the yrs. it is the 5th rarest.
In front of Copper, Stardust, Vista and Tawny.
So I would say quite rare.

I saw a rotten one with a dogey MOT recently (must have been tested by a blind man to pass) and he wanted £7000 for it !!!!!!! The strut tops had 4 sets of top plates and the bonnet just about closed !!!!!!!!

just wondering how would you guys and the avo club look at this car if it were to be reshelled into a non type 49 spare shell? would it still be reconised as a mexico???

Lots of them are reshelled mate . Most of the MK1 BDA's and Lotus escorts were rebuilt into Mexico shells etc . You could reshell it into a clean 1100 shell and just fit the AVO bodyshell bits (top plates , radius arms etc etc ) as that's all Ford did anyway .

We all know that 99% of the rs1600's and rs1800's are fakes (just log books and engines) and even all the "works" cars are "triggers brooms" with 7x re-shells each etc etc !!!!!!!!! . It always starts with the most desirable models first (rs1600 , rs1800,twin cam) and then filters down to the common sporting models (mexico,rs2000 etc) as the log books get used up . They were swopping I.D.'s from twin cams , rs1600's etc onto mexico shells when i was a teenager and then started making rs2000's from mexicos (cos they were worth more) . I know of lots and still see some of them at shows today posing as the "real" thing !!!!!!!
