How will it work not paying Vat? Will we be charged an import duty on the goods as at some point Customs & Excise will want something I presume

What do we want put on the contract? Is it just to confirm that we are ordering X Black and X Blue Camcovers with X Fitting Kits and are paying 33.33% upfront with the balance of 66.67% paid on completion of the order before delivery takes place?

    Evening all,

did some checking regarding the VAT issue: normally the private buyer of goods will have to pay the VAT. If smoov's company buys all the camcovers from the Germans then he doesn't have to pay VAT (both companies are VAT-registered in their own country). If smoov then sells them on to the rest of us he has to add the VAT as we are private (non-VAT registered) buyers. If he doesn't add the VAT then he might get into trouble if the Customs Dept. checks his books. If he buys only 1 camcover and sells it on without adding VAT he could get away with it saying it got lost (in the post or something).

I personally don't want to get Martin or another member here in trouble just to make a VAT-profit on the covers. So I would like to suggest that we get this camcover-train rolling and start sending taffr moneys so that we can make a definite order for both camcovers and fitting kits, and send a deposit to the Germans. Regarding the contract, as taffr holds the money he is the best person to sign it on our end.

If all orders have been placed with taffr, I will make a contract in English and German stating the number of camcovers and fitting kits ordered, that taffr is making a deposit of (probably) 33,3%, that one sample camcover will be send to rwdrs (?) as a proof, that taffr will send the rest of the money over after approval of rwdrs and that the Germans will send all the covers (except mine and possibly some other non-UK-residents) to taffr.
And if he fails to do so we will

Prices: from the postagecosts rwdrs posted I would suggest you add 10 euro to the price of the camcover (postage + packing). Don't think there will be extra charges for sending the fitting kits. The exchange-rate GBP-euro is approx. 1.33 atm, so if you want say 1 camcover then send taffr a cheque for 130,90 + 10 = 140,90 equals GBP 106. So maybe GBP 110 would be a good amount to send.
But for you send cheques I want taffr to confirm that he's okay with this. As he said somewhere above there might be some additional charges for posting items within the uk.

Taffr you okay with this unless someone has a bright idea about the VAT or other issues?

                  • right oh,

I would be happy to receive the first "proof" cover and would suggest that I pay the 131 Euros direct, firstly makes nae sense to send the money to Taff and he send it back to Germany with subsequent losses involved. The seller also has nothing to moan about being "out of pocket".

Of course I will take loads of pictures for all to see, the other thing was the contract, I was thinking of a proper "ready" one, that covers all eventualities, e.g. warranty, number of covers ordered, final cost, date of expected delivery etc etc. A properly, legally binding document, that in case of any difficulties that everything has been described and both parties know where they stand.

A final list will have to drawn up soon, and all those that want fitting kits confirm this and the colour they are ordering.

What is the exact legal position then.

I'm pretty sure you'll find that once VAT has been paid once in the EU another country can't claim it again. Either that or the ones that go to the UK these will have to claim back the MwSt and pay VAT in the UK.

Anyway this is what I wanted to write you just now:

Hi, the £110 is just my guess for the payment for 1 camcover incl. postage to you. As you are getting the money I want (and hope that everyone gets the message) that you say what amount of money you want. As the exchangerate isn't fixed and the postage isn't known yet I calculated a price for everyone to get the train rolling. If we (you) cannot get some money together then the groupbuy isn't going anywhere. As you are going to handle the finance I want you to be happy with the amounts people send you.

As i think Jamie said, the German VAT is included in the 130,90 euro. I asked for that specifically when I spoke to seller. Once you pay VAT in on e country you do not have to pay it again in another.
When I buy parts from Burton then I do not pay VAT again overhere.

As said before, both rwdrs and myseld will pay the amount needed directly to the seller; will add that in the agreement.

Don't think there is a need to get it all legally okay-ed.
