5 speed in mine as well. Removed the plates by carefully drilling the spot welds out, soldered the old holes up on the tunnel and bolted the plates in their new position. With a little welding I can go back to a 4 speed if I want, but I can't see myself doing that. Use a 5 speed gearknob from an early Sierra, it's similar to the RS 4 speed one. The type 9 cuts the revs down, saves engine wear, reduces petrol consumption........what more can I say.

i think your right m8...it looks like the way to make the car better to drive
but you have got to have the right diff

what is the best diff with the 2.8 box then...........?

Isn't it just the first gear ratio that's different and the length of the input shaft, but I'd say ideal for the road is surely the 3.77:1 a 3.89 just negates the 0.82:1 overdrive top of the type 9 AFAIK

I have a type 9 with a 3.9 diff in my red RS and the gearing seems fine. But the 2.8 box will be going on to a 3.54 standard diff.
