Thereafter, it will be seat re-upholstering, 5-speed and the like as individual upgrade projects.

I'd love to think I could go quicker, but I just have too many other things going on as well.

UK is a long way from here, but of course I'd like to bring it across. Shame the real famous old classic event (RSOC National Day) has faded away to the sounds of boom boom boxes.

Cumbria style tour late 2008 would be good. Have got a couple of old flames in the North West who could possibly be tempted!

the man with a plan.... ...sounds good das...see if you can make it...

I still do think this is one of the best early RS2000 restorations. Keep the good work going Andrew.

            CheeRS,

              Thanks for the sentiment Joe!

I haven't been terribly busy on it recently - fallen in love and all that stuff so I'm on t'pushbike most weekends!

Picked up the head a few days back - nice job, but we did have a bit of a discussion why he didn't put hardened valve seats in (which was the original reason for taking the head in!) The long and the short is that they're more trouble than they're worth (apparently) if I'm only going to be doing 2 or 3 thousand km per year anyway. We'll see.

Checked the combustion chamber volumes (see pic) and they're nice and identical. Should be 10,3 compression ratio when it's all together.

Got the whole head ported and polished to a very high degree. Inlet manifold matched to head and eased in a few spots itself. New guides, new double valve springs and collets etc., new bearings and oil seal, manifold and head faces skimmed, blasted and painted, spring seats machined. £500 all in and he threw in a few shiney bits and pieces as well.

Set about timing the cam. It doesn't help to set it up on valve N°1 much - much better to do it on the first inlet valve (valve 2) . Anyway, I know how to do it now

Cam is 4° out and the wheel teeth are each 9°. Went to refit my old Quaife vernier wheel and found it's rusted beyond recovery, so have just ordered a Kent ally one from Burtons after a quick search.

Thanks Vinny. Brake pipes are a kit for Escort 2 LHD which turn up on eBay every so often. They're steel with a sort of yellowish cad-plate look. Come in straight lengths, so I think they look quite nice.

                            • to show that I'm not just a pretty face.......

converting the bell-housing with threaded inserts to be able to drop the 'box off before separating the bellhousing from engine. Tapping hole was a weird 15,2 but I fortunately got a machine shop on the way to work who opened up the holes nicely.

Decided to fit the NOS 44IDF Manifold rather than tidy up my old one. It's been matched to the inlet ports on the head too.

There are several different castings - all original Ford - out there! There are basically it seems two different ones. Main differences are flange thicknesses. Some seem to have the manifold stud nut recesses machined too, others seem to come "raw".
