Because the 15" tubs are fitted I had to cut off the ends of the backstay bars including the welded tubes. I bought some new tube off Ebay and drilled the bars ready for welding in the new tubes.

I've made some backstay mounting plates from 2mm mild steel, drilled some washers ready to plug weld onto the brackets.

Just need to weld into place, make some support plates and do the same to the other backstay bar.

          • I've not had much time to work on the shell due to work commitments but got a chance to fabricate the roll cage backstage mounts and one of the footwell plates.

I just need to make another footwell plate, bolt the complete cage up and then weld the backstay mounts.

Does anyone know what is usually done with the back of the parcel shelf as shown in the photo below..!!! There are 5 or 6 1/4" holes on the other side in the boot, I'm not sure if these are welded up or plugs fitted....!!

I understood that these tabs are only to assist in the holding of the parcel shelf so I didn't bother doing anything with these on my build.

As I can see daylight through to the boot I thought it would need to be blanked somewhere as part of the firewalling..!!

                      • They will need to be sealed

some use fibreglass and apply several layers, others weld plates ove them

A good test to see how good you have sealed the firewall is to turn of the garage lights and get someone to shine a torch in the boot area and from inside the car have a look where you can see light coming through any gaps, holes etc etc
