  • Upon reflection don't rivet after countersinking but fit a skin pin or screw. You might need to de-burr the back of the arch rim and prep it, and the quarter panel before final fit.

Without a doubt otherwise the arch won't sit flush

      • Another visit to Rally Weld to purchase this work of art.

Full GP4 WCXM and pinto heavy duty engine mounts. Not only are these well made but the cheapest that I could find on the Internet of the same quality.

        • Carried out a few more improvements on the radiator gussets so they blend into the original side panels and added welds along the top and sides. Inspired by Andrews build..

          • Picked up this 2.0L 205 block Pinto engine today.. Looks like it's had a hard life but won't be using any of the original internal parts and sump.

Took 2 of us and a hoist to get it into the hatch..!! just working out how to get it out on my own..!!!!!!

            • Having visited the Wyedean Rally service park Yesterday I felt motivated today to make a start on fitting the gearbox crossmember brackets.

First task was to fit the WCXM, mounts and engine block. Then the new bellhousing and gearbox.

As you can see the brackets need major modification to fit to this tunnel and I also need to work out the height that the gearbox sits inside the tunnel.

              ANY ADVICE APPRECIATED..!!!

              • I swapped over the engine mounts today and the shorter mount doesn't work on the passenger side, the engine sits further back towards the bulkhead.

I swapped it back to the long mount on the left and then modified the gearbox crossmember so that it would fit the large gearbox tunnel.

                      • Just read through this project thread. Great work and effort gone into this and looking forward to the updates.

Making me keen to get hold of a mk2 shell sooner!

                        • Although it might not look as if the shell has progressed, only those who have taken the underside of a shell back to bare metal with just a wire wheel in an angle grinder and drill can appreciate how much time it takes, and how dirty a job it is..

I've also sanded the the rest of shell to bare metal, gone over the filler with stopper and cleaned up the front end ready for more zinc.

                          • top work m8, lots of time sank into that to get it to bare metal.

                            • Got around to zinc priming the shell today, only the underneath left to zinc.

The primer shows up all of the areas that need attention, especially where filler has been applied.

If there are any good painters living around the Pontypridd area that want to earn some cash to tidy up the filler areas please let me know, I'll provide all the tools and consumables!!
