You run a bead of silcone around the hole in the block and also under the washer for the securing bolt . Then just bolt them in the hole and they can't ever fly out . Apparantly some N/A engines produce a shock wave when they make lots of power . As the core plugs are next to the cylinder bores this shock wave goes through the water jacket and blows the core plugs straight out of the block .

                • The weather is so bad at present that i can't get anywhere near 8000+revs to test out the new core plugs . Anything over 5000 revs is bordering on the dangerous as the roads are proper soaked and the arse end is comming out in 3 gears !!!!!! Great fun though

                  • We've run the engine on the dyno this morning quickly before the shop opened so we only had 3/4 of an hour to play until the customers started turning up . We had time to sort the full throttle fueling but had to leave the rest of the mapping and the cam swinging until another day . Looking good so far though with 222bhp and 173 ibls/ft of torque . Most importantly i now have an extra 26bhp and 14 ibls/ft at 7200+ revs all the way to the limiter . It goes like fooooook . Graphs and videos later after the football

                        • Here's a graph of the new engine spec verses the old one . Note the extra 25bhp at the top end although the "peak" figuire is only 6bhp more than the old 215bhp engine . This is also on the same Dyno-Dynamics dyno (bhp thief) where my 250+bhp 3.5 litre BMW Alpina made 220bhp (so 222 is pretty good with 4 cylinders , pump fuel and 1.5 litres less)
