The wiring isn't that scary Andy, most of it is multiplugs anyway. A good auto spark ( or bomb disposal expert ) will get it sorted no bother.
Alternatively, a good look at someone elses car (the more stripped out the better) and work out where the bits all go.
Very seldom is a wiring fault in the middle of a bit of wire, if somehing is wrong with it, it will be a component, a bad joint, or, the harness chaffed through. You can rule out the last one before you fit the loom, so , that doesn't leave much to be wrong with it. Connect it up and see what happens.
Best advice is junk any alarms/etc then use the manual ,all wires are colour coded on the drawings ,IIrc the only thing not shown is the inners (lights)which should be obvious.
