  • another bump Jon - how the build ?

    • I see you've got a Pace tank there. Which one did you go for 6.5" diameter or 8.25", 14" or 16" tall? I'm about to order one for mine but wasn't sure if the 16" tall one would fit in the boot or not?

        Hi,

Paul Dunnell got it for me - Including the breather fittings, its 17" tall and does fit in the boot OK.

          Hi Grum,

Slow progress I'm afraid. Work has been very busy lately and its hard to find the time. It is getting there slowly though....

Goodwood could well be the first time out in it at this rate... only a year later than I was originally planning...!

              • A brief update...

Exhaust manifold and middle sections are painted and on, pedal box is plumbed in and wiring is just about complete.

I've now turned my attention to the airbox. I've made a mock-up in card. Hopefully Doug is going to help me by transforming it into alloy...

                      • Some very interesting ideas gone into your car Jon, you are truly a workaholic and it shows everyone just how much work goes into building a Rally car. An Excellent post by a true clubman. Well done and I hope the car meets your expectations.
Not sure about the engine mounting design but I will hold my reservations as I've not seen it in the flesh. Let us know how the pre event test goes.

                          Thanks.

The engine mounts/beam design is basically the same as they use on Westfields, etc. so I'm hoping I won't have any problems. It's been CAD designed, and should be able to cope with the loads involved. I'll keep you all posted with progress.

                          • A quick update...

Dry sump, fuel system and fire extinguisher are all plumbed in. The throttle linkage and cooling pipes should arrive this week.

..and the wiring is finished and the interior is now fitted:

(For the eagle eyed among you... the gauge on the left measuring 4.5 degrees is oil temp. There's no oil in the car yet, so that's the temperature of the dry sump tank. That has been registering in the minus figures at times this week - its been so cold in the garage...)
