im restoring a mk2 van (well have it started) at the mo & am gonna be using 7.5" RS 4 spoke wheels on the rear. When I put the wheels on they stick out a few inches maybe 1-2" past the wheel arches. Im thinking of using MK1 Golf rear arches as these are wider & will take the wheels or can i use the van axle shortened so that it sits under the standard arches & the body still looks stock. If I use the golf arches I maybe taking away from the vans look....
I ve seen some mk1 escorts with the golf arches on the rear & mk1 mexico arches on the rear as well & they can look crap....
I was told to get myself an anglia estate axle as its narrower.....
I want my van to look tasty body wise when finished (as we all want our cars to look) & the engine mods wont be mad & I wont be driving the van every day, but will be using it more than the mex. Im sticking to the wheels on the rear.....any thoughts of what i should do?????

put 7" wheels on it as there is a van in scotland with 7.5 wheels and it looks mad a bit to extreme in my opinin although its a nice van

my brother got an axle narrowed a few years ago,as the customer wanted to fit 7 1/2" rs alloys,it looked much better than having to tap out the arch lip a bit, which always looks a bit of a bodge.
what i need is a high horse like the others have !

that seems a better idea alright & i like the sound of it.....what axle did he use? how did the spring hangers work out? if u narrow the axle does everything undermeath have to move inwards? how much mods have to be done to the undersied to have a narrowed axle??? has anyone got any photos of this done????

my mk2 looked like a drag car,the wrong way round.

I know the mk1 van and the guy who has the mk1 rs
The mk1 rs has 7.5s on it with an anglia axle but he had to use wheel spacers because the axle was so narrow the wheels scuffed the inner arch,
on the other hand the van looks naff probably due to the tyre width as they look streched on

custom narrow your axle or ditch the 7.5s for 7s
