why try and get people to back you up on here

If you feel that stong about it grow some bollocks and confront the people selling them direct

and then you might get some respect

For the record I have contacted some of the sellers of V5s in the past and had the explanation mostly in four letter words

you keep ignoring the question of why you do not contact the sellers?

Do I suspect that you are a Whinger and not a doer?

£1550 seems to be the going rate for a MK1 Mexico V5 and tags. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1509684981...84.m1423.l2649

Not to mention the bag of rust sweepings from the garage floor of course.

What good will it do contacting the seller?

If real enthusiasts stood together and didn't provide these people with a market that might have an effect.

But as we know from this thread and others that's not going to happen.

I dont want this to develope into a personal slanging match but it seems there is a split attitude over this

If you own a car and reshell into a shell that has ID its not a problem and the doner cars ID need to be returned to the DVLA as it is deemed scrap

What the point of this thread is all about is that its illegal to try to change the ID of a car with a spurious V5

                      • Forgive my intrusion, but there is (or was) as DVLA route to legitimising a chassis without proven heritage and that was the 'Q' plate! Plenty of bikes and cars came back onto the road, them and kit cars / bikes were the only way for individuals to get a plate full stop. They were a PITA as the insurance would load you up (god knows why) but did have the advantage that as they were not an age related plate they were 'deemed' to be from 1979 and so current regs for that year applied - worked well for bikes that tended to have a 'fruitier' exhaust note!
I don't know if the Q plate system still exists but if you are legit there shouldn't be a problem - certainly shouldn't concern a rallyist ! ! !

                        • The whole log book build does not annoy nor affect me as I would never ever consider buying something without a proven and unbroken history from day 1.
                          But thats just me.

And you would have to pay top bucks for a car with those credentials! if you can find one! cant be many like that after all these years!

                            • I've had to check my calendar - I thought it was 1st January but it seems more like 1st April.

                              • http://www.classicsmonthly.com/2011/...oposal-update/ ebay v5's used to ring stolen cars must be stopped and passing off replicas as genuine cars as well. What do people think of this reshell or die proposal, i think the jist of this is you can keep old reg number but cannot then sell car on as 100% original more of a replica but still legal. So if rs is beyond economical repair instead of building mechanicals into pop shell and legally having to use pop reg you can keep your old rs number but new logbook will say car has been reshelled so future buyers are kept informed and can decide on a fair price for the car.
