We get a call every couple of weeks with people asking for v5s not that we have them to sell!!!
Mainly for 2-door books for rally car builds or someone whats a book for a lefthand drive import. When we say no could not help they buy the ones that are on ebay!
I thought the law states that when a car is scraped the V5 must be returned to the DVLA

As to Rally Car builds then wht not use the cars original ID

Lastly law states imports must be registered in the UK

Bottom line useing a V5 to give a car a new identity is illegal

As most imports are not fit to mot when they arrive here, hence the easy option is put a uk book on it.
We bring all our escorts in as spare parts, no one has ever registered one..

As for rally cars its nice to have it on a rs v5,,same to cut up a good road going rs2000, mk1 mexico etc.

Can't see you'll stop it and as said, there would be very few escorts left.

It may well be the easiest but it is not in any way legal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My attitude has changed regarding this subject since I started rallying.

The Ford Motor Company was probably first in the line of escort V5 / shell swaps on rally cars. I know of one log book locally that has been on at least 4 rally car replacement shells.

A preparation company in South Wales has had up to 50 (Fifty) escort shells in stock, these come from abroad by the container load & not from the UK.
To compete in certain classes you need an appropriate ID.
This was good enough for Ford. No stolen cars, no concours cars, no road cars..no harm (in my opinion).

As I have read on other threads, a DVLA log book is no guarantee of proof of originality or even ownership.

However...as for the stolen car problem, yes I completely understand peoples concern.

                          Log books

This is not a new thing this has been happening for over 25 years now that i know about, you buy a nice shell off of Darren at escort tec or one of the guys on here and you put your old book on it simples!!

These log books on ebay have been lying about in cupboards, wardrobes etc etc for many years, probably these shells have rotted away 20 years ago plus and thats all they've got left is the log book. Why not give somebody the chance to use it, it's not going to be original anyways with service history books old photographs, MOT's etc.

Lets face it FORD done it in the 70's and 80's re-shelling shells with the same registration plate.

The only guys thats moaning on here is all the trumpits with there one owner and two owner low milage GENUINE RS's no room for scum with build ups and re-shelled motors. All we get is slagged cause ours is not on it's original shell.

                            Because it is illegal!

What is your tale on one of these books being assigned to a stolen car?
