If a genuie RS Escort is so crap, why do people make lookalikes ?

Just build a nice one and leave it un badged.

That way you don't look like a wannbe.

Most modded 1100L escorts aren't RS reps . An RS just looks the same (except the beaky mk2 and nobody copies those , lol) as they mostly are the same . Most people just stick mexico/rs2000/twin cam etc badges on them or else they look a bit daft with holes in the front wings or 1100L badges .

Also some of us like the feel and drive of modded Escorts so best to use 1100L so you can do what you want to it with trainspotters sobbing .
                          I've had rs1600 mk1 , rs2000 mk1 , a few mexico mk1's , rs2000 mk2 and they all got sold as i don't like them standard-ish and they all drive the same as an 1100L anyway .
Doubt i'll ever buy another so-called rs and if i did it would probably be a Sierra , lol .

Hmmmm, well I would love to own a genuine mk2 rs1800 ,but there is no way I could afford a genuine one at 50 grand plus!!!! ,but if Deepest Blues mk2 rs1800 look a like came up for sale at the right price, then I would be happy with a look a likeNo that is a nice replica!!!!!.....

We are all enthusiasts so why should there be a divide? Gaz has some valid points, and like I said in my previous post, I have had several RS's overs the years,my first being 1985. Before that I had populars etc. made to look like Mexico's as I couldnt afford the real thing (or afford to insure it) when first started driving.

But now I have just bought a solid 2dr GL that I can make my own mark on, and build exactly what I want, without the fear of upsetting the anoraks! I love genuine minty RS's, but my preference is to look at them now and not drive them.

And as for prices, by time I will have finished my build it would have cost me more than I can buy a clean RS2 for. so does it really matter if it says RS on the V5? Nope not to me, I prefer it to be on the bootlid regardless of its origins!

Anyway V5's are cheap on ebay lol

And lets face it, if the forum had a "genuine" section, all you would have talk about in there is cleaning products
