What about amalgamating other clubs who have National days as well, rather than just 'RS' National Day ? Perhaps the group owners could get their heads together and discuss the following ?
There are others that exist that may be in the same position with diminishing attendances, restricted due to venue prices etc.
Some that spring to mind are :
1. Lotus Cortina National Day http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1007988
2. AVO National DAY
3. Anglia Owners http://www.fordanglia105eownersclub....ional-day-agm/
4. Capri Owners
5. Granada Owners
We only had to look around at Oulton to see so many separate Ford groups who could for one weekend of the year, be brought together for a great event.
I realise also that some groups would not want to see this 'teamwork' going on, probably because the clubs are run as a business in order to exist, but in this climate it is in my opinion better to try something new rather than let it all die a slow death

i've not been to ND for 3 years now.
main problems i see are
1)to do with the noise restrictions on track limiting what can run. plus what you are actually allowed to do on track (bit of hooning without getting the black flag).
would be better if the sesions were organised into model age type runs as people could watch cars they were actually interested in.
modern - novice
old school - novice
modern - regular track day god/ high performance
old school- regular track day god/ high performanceish
2)it became too spread out having to walk from one side of the circuit to the other.
group like for like cars together if not on a club stand one model parking like bromley pag.
cheers john

I never went this year, but i had no interest in booking the track because of timed sessions, and also if i had paid ~ £180 for one days sessioned track day, i would be pretty miffed at watching 2 hours of blue focuses driving round the track like miss daisy.
Also i dont think this has been mentioned yet, and it may upset a few as i truly appreciate the work that goes into it, but i think the registrars displays take the heart out of the regional stands for me . Far more entertaining wandering round spotting the motors that interest me, but i find it a bit tedious when they're all together, but thats just me and as Martin and Frosty have already said, you cant please everyone.
Personally i think we are spoilt by the Lakes Tour, and everyone judges other shows by this, when in reality, there arent any other Mk1/Mk2 based days through the year so its an unfair comparison. You are never ever going to get the turnout of Mk1/Mk2 escorts at national day that appear at the lakes, simply because people like to drive them.

In a perfect world the Regional stands would be more central (as some people have said about Oulton Park) and I would like to see the Regional Stands full of all marques of RS, but personally I think they are out of the way at Donington and a lot of people didn't even go to view them.
A couple of ideas :-
2 National Days
One a Static Show (Stanford Hall etc.) with Regional Stands and Visiting Ford Car Club Stands all in one big area with the Traders and hospitality close by.
The other a dedicated Track Day with the emphasis on track action, with an Autotest and if some people want it a 1/4 mile sprint. This way there is plenty for people to do that maybe don't want to go on the track, but would like to try other activities.Cheers

They should have space on the show field for people to arrive in a RS of any type wether theyre a member or not and be able to show their cars.
Most of the time there's as good cars in the car park as inside
Its the cars that make the show.
I know there used to be the infield parking but that was pre entry tho.sigpic GC Automotive

Went to my first National day this year. Can't complain about entry price or food prices as you expect it. Walked round full show and spent time sat track side.
Cars on show and traders stalls are always interesting and enjoyed wandering round.
Track action was rubbish from what i saw. Same batches of cars going round and round with not a lot in the way of tyre smoke or opposite lock.
That said I'm sure the team putting the event together do an excellent job and they should be congratulated on there efforts. You can't please all the people all of the time!
For me though the lakes tour is the best event of the year. An event full of Mk1's and 2's of all variants with the odd 'swerve ball' thrown in (chevette's, Rs 200's etc). It's an event to behold.
The sooner there's an 'Autumn tour' the better!!!Please please please can I be in the 'Clique'
