I havent got a photo of it, but I was at a selective finish control (waiting for the course car) when a MOD police car, complete with revolving blue light, screamed to a stop and all we could hear were the occcupants shouting "what times on the clock?".
They wanted to see how fast they were compared to the rally cars so the start crew had written down their time of departure on a scap of paper, told them to shout that as they stopped and ask us at the end to work out how long they had taken (this was back in the days of Targa Timing). They then parked their car out of sight and stood with us for the top 20 cars to see how quick they had been.
Great fun seeing the dibelief on their faces when they discovered how quick the top 10 had been!

Well thanks to John (ATR477V) I have finally got a set of results and found out where I finished. It's only taken me 25 years to find out. Now just need a route card and I will be a very happy camper.

          Great thread.
I started on road rallies in 1983. Happy in both seats. Won my first pot on the 1985 Colman Tyres, lots more followed. Did most of the local Motoring News events in '86 and '87.

          Didn't always use Escorts.

And as shown by some of your photo,s ,a lot of rallies were on wet damp foggy nights.
You have done the Colman Tyres rally which is from my present home town ,and Colman tyres is still based in Otley too. Done the rally myself 3or maybe 4 times .

I think the Autumn Rally was a Motoring News event.

Look at those big 70s shirt collars!

PDMC sticker in the white and blue Sunbeam. My motor club.

I used to road rally an Astra in '85 - '87. Then the rule changes...
