any of the old road rally guys on here take part in the Banbury Cross Hella stages at any time,1 of my earlier motorsport memorys was helpin set up a section in the early 90s
Did it in 1972. One or two terrible organisational slip ups (misleading arrowing on the Shenstone Airfield stage - the AP test track - sending cars back the wrong way towards others) detracted from it. I think I had fastest time on a farm stage with lots of narrow bends and grass, on which the Mini with the most torque as opposed to power would go best. Rally legend John Sprinzell was marshalling the start of a similar stage on his own, with a 911S, not long before he emigrated to Hawai.

Some times that was the case............since this thread started the wifes crap has gone from the display cabinet and my road rally crap has gone back in,,,,,,,,,she did not approve,,
i still have loads of road books ,marked OS maps etc from my road rally days,Entry lists etc,so once it gets warmer i will get up in the attic and recover them.
Me,my brother and my dad compete in road rallies/Endurance rallies.Still awesome to compete on!
My dad also ran a big wing mk1 RS1600(x flow engine though)in the late 70s and early 80s and did all the local events and some Motoring News rounds,
Mini miglia,Clitheronian,Ribble rally,Devills Own,South Valley,Hall trophy,RL Brown etc etc.Got a big suitcase of Motoring News reports and entry lists and some marked maps from back in the day.
My dad says its nothing like the 'road racing' days he used to do though!
Ps Cars are still quick these days,my 205 goes like stink in the lanes and has around 160bhp,Tran x diff etc. Some escorts are 2.4 pintos on split 48's or have s2000 honda engines lol

Hi, any chance your dad would have any paperwork from the '77 R L Brown.
I did it that year but my navigator kept everything. Haven't seen him for over 30 years. I am after entry list, route card and results. I can't even remember where I finished but know it was not at the important end.

cheeRS
absolutely no idea !
we were members of abergavenny auto club at the time, i still have a (161 ?) os map marked by one of the other members,
( nicky grist or something his name was )
for our next event, hereford hospital novice rally.
(for which we borrowed a 2.0 mk1 and took the owner in the back)
seemingly my mex (OAT 269M) was an ex motoring news rally car 1973-75 1st 2 years of its life, any info or pics would be great if anyone can mind of my car & came from (crystal of hull) ford dealers
I was Road Rallying in the mid 80's, just as the new rules came in (6" wheels, 4 forward facing lights, no arches, no sponsers etc).
I was a member of Quinton Motor Club and competed mainly in mid/north wales, but did venture to the Cotwolds with a few to mind, rally 143, Hereford Evening News to name a few. Bengrys car auction was a favorite starting venue, and it's where the Quinton motor club started it's "Acropolis Rally 1985" event to which I was 1st in class B and 6th overall .
A few names come to mind, Dennis Quinn being one, he was still Road Rallying in his white RS2 when my younger brother wanted to try his hand at navigating in 1998. Another was Chris Weaver (nutter) with his red RS2, he use to do more Cotswold events and I remember him telling me he was flat out on one of the very long straights (Roman roads you know) when he took off over a yump and flew through the air, over a stone wall and ended up in a field .
Welsh events I can remember were the Snowliner, Radnor Pacemakers, Greenleaves, Beach car and truck Rental, JJ Brown, Holrus to name a few, but same here, all the paper work is with my navigator and I havn't seen or heard from him for decades.
