You can't blame a mag for featuring modified cars as that's what 99% of owners do with them . Only a few standard cars about for good reason (they are slow and crap to drive) and they are always concours buffty show ponys that never go anywhere . Seen one and you've seen them all .
hold on a minute, i won my class at national day despite being up against 2 trailored cars, i use mine as did the previous owner. I will do the lakes tour in it, i will concours it but always drive to the shows. The mag needs to get a balance imo, i don't like heavily modded cars but do appreciate them, give us a bit of both and everyone is happy.

Amazing; even the likes of 'Practical Classics' magazine have finally revised there MK2 Mex price figures from the long ago obsolete figure of £3500 for a condition 1 example (far from Concours of course!!) to a more realistic, though still undervalued £7000. RS2000's are priced at £10k and 18's are not - quite rightly - listed as I recall!?! Poor reaearch on the part of Classic Ford considering what it deals with...

Well i bought the mag today and the price guide isn't too far wrong for most of the escort models listed . Only the mk2 mexico and rs1800 prices are way off and the rest aren't too far from the truth .

The cars are worth what anyone is willing to pay for them. Agreed those prices are way off and considering the scene the mag covers, they should of done a bit more research before printing it.
However, the prices of anything to do with Mk1 Mk2's at the moment is absolutely ridiculous. Anyone trying to buy a car needs to part with a small fortune and its only as good as the last owner. I have two Mk2's and it's nice to know they are worth the money if i decided to sell them but i never will so they could be worth nothing as far as I'm concerned. I have them because I like them not because they are worth mega money.
Sometimes though the prices can cause heartache, I recently worked on a T reg 1600 sport which if you saw it driving down the road would really tickle your fancy. Signal orange, RS alloys mexico front spoiler etc, looks stunning but when it got to me for a few little jobs...... an absolute pile of sh1t. I noticed the holes that had been welded up where the cage had been, the rotten kick panels inner wings etc etc and the fact it was actually a ghia shell was only the start of it. And this young 21 yr old lad who had always dreamt of owning one was £5500 worse off.
People see these inflated prices and bodge up any pile of crap to make money. Obviously his own fault for not taking someone who knew what they were looking at but can't help feeling sorry for him.
