Ive also got one of these sat in the garage, but mines a bit different as its the only convertable one as far as i can see gartrac converted, there are only around five or six original long wheel base cars left now. I think a couple including mine still run the v6 with 4 speed box and the rest have either granada cozzy as the press car now runs or yb cozzy fitted. But for me it has to be left as it was originaly built.

Gartrac were not the only people doing RWD Escort Mk3. I remember packing the last of the Genesis RWD conversions in the mid 90's. These were a complete conversion kit and instructions for home diy. Of course you would need to be a good fabricator. First the jigs were made (parts included) then the shell was cut up and the new parts added. Some of these still exist, they were designed to run the Escort MK2 suspension and a Pinto or X-Flow engine. I wish I had done one back then when I had the chance.

So, anybody got a Genesis RWD?
Why do we pay others to do a job we did ourselves?

              Ever paid for conveyancing?

This is true not only gartrac did the rwd conversion, but only gartrac carried out there"s, it wasnt available as a diy kit and cost a small fortune in 1985, you had to have some money back then to buy one, mine came with the build list and costing including a brand new shell and all new running gear, in the early nineties i went to buy a shell fitted with a genesis kit fitted, the one i saw wasnt very well done to say the least, this is due to the kit beingsold as a diy one, and the outcome all depended on how talented the builder/welder was. Gartrac shells were all converted by themselves and all have an individual build number. You can still get spares from gartrac for them which are unique to the car, such as the front suspension bottom arms which are compression strut with a one off ball joint, the quality of the conversion is second to none,as it should be as they were responsable for building fords and many other companies rally cars, and had a hand in the rs 1700t project.

would i be right in saying that there were 3 versions avaliable when they were new

the G3 was supplied as a rolling shell
the G4 was a complete car with a 4 cylinder engine

and the G6 was a complete car with a 6 cylinder engine

Only the G6 was sold as a road registered car through the xr centre, which was the idea of roland dane the guy who owned the xr centre, he thought it would be a good idea to build a rwd escort mk3 road car, so he dealt with gartrac who converted the cars, then he had them painted and assembled prior to selling through his company,i think any one could aproach gartrac though later on and have one converted and build it themselves, i think that is still true today, the G3/G4 were competition cars in the 80"s,and as far as i know, were built to customer requirements, like martin schanche"s G4 rally cross car, which ran x trac"s four wheel drive system and a ford motrsport cosworth bdt with zakspeed bits as well. Its rumoured that gartrac had been working with ford on the rs 1700t project, when ford pulled the plug,it left them with a lot of the work already done so i dont think it was too dificult for them to produce the shells in rwd format, they were already responsable for building ford motorsport competition cars any way. There fabrication is top notch.
