had this bother myself on a couple of rads took them of and ran water through them from the garden hose unreal how much sludge comes out them but on taken them of found a few of them had the vales shut back a bit fully opened the ones furthest from the boiler and turn the rest back according to the position of the pipe run

do you have one of these in your heating system??

had alot of problems with these seem to cause some sort of air lock and you find some rads work and some don't, if you have cut it out

keep it as long as possible, as most new condensing type boilers will not last any where near as long.just try turning off all the hot ones. then the cold ones should get hot. sometimes the valve gates can get stuck or come off their spindle.if they still dont get hot take the cold rads off and flush them through with hose pipe. then you can also check the connections (flow and return) of the pipework to each rad.attach a hose pipe see if water comes out.or catch it in a bucket.just a few cheaper ideas.

Going to try this and other suggestions. I am reluctant to take a rad off as we have new carpets and the last time I took one off I made a right mess

She will kill me if I make a mess.

If it does not work then I will get the proffessionals in (not Bodie and Doyle)

Many thanks for all the advice.

After a month of cold and two plumbers it is still not working properly.

I also dumped a load of black sludge on thew new carpet

I want to put a good chemical in to see if there is sludge floating around. Can anyone suggest some thatI can get from Plumb centre or Plumb base etc.

Also how do I get it into the system?

                            Cheers in advance.

if it is sludged up,ie lots of black sh#te you can hire the flushing pump, normally from most plumbing suppliers.connect to where the pump. is block of open vent and cold feed, then do each rad separately. the place where you hire it from would also advise you on chemicals, procedures etc.

I power flushed my mates system at the weekend, 11 radiators and took about six hours. I used Fernox but Sentinel is better in my opinion. This will cure your system of all sludge, however if you have any dodgy connections this will expose them ! Go to a Travis Perkins hire centre for the machine its about £60 for the weekend plus cleaner and inhibitor.
