    Yes
But no longer has the Red Stripe as that well known driver no longer owns it .I helped build it when it changed from a MK1 to a blue MK2 with the original owner.

Also would The AVO recognise as entry to club as a full member such an "evolution" of a MKI AVO car ?
      That's an interesting question Dave.

I'll motion a proposal for a new membership type "Full Evolution Member" at the next committee meeting... I only hope the Mitsubishi owners don't misunderstand cos we don't want any rif-raf in the club you know... Then again, the proposal may be defeated (or not even seconded) but you can't say we don't try!

Firstly I know its the 'AVO' owners club but I think it would be good for all involved if they could come up with some way of allowing RS MK2's into the club somehow, have thought this for many years even when I was an AVO member and think that with a growth in membership it could be a good thing all round.

Now what do we do with the Sports and Harriers that we all love as well

there nothing stopping Mk2 RS,sport harrier and even non escort owners from joining the avo club

The Club has two membership levels – Full membership for owners of AVO Vehicles and Associate membership for people who wish to buy an AVO vehicle, have a strong interest in them, or whose particular vehicle does not qualify for full Membership.

Paul, you really think it would be good for all involved? Why change a clubs constitution just to make it bigger?

Look at the RSOC for example; it's simply grown too big, so it ended up with dozens of smaller clubs (regional groups) which compete to the point of hating each other and quite frankly, it's neglected the cars which it was originally formed for in the first place... That's why you are all on here!

If the AVO club went down the route you suggest (which it won't imo), the clubs original mandate would be lost - in fact, it would probably lose many of the AVO members who like being in a smaller club where there is little or no in-fighting and their cars are catered for exclusively...

That's the point of a one make club surely?

Steve, I honestly do understand why the AVO club would not go this way, and seeing how some of the other clubs that have grown have run into problems along the way it may well be justified.

I remember reading many years ago an article by Graham Robson, think it was when Ford Heritage magazine first came out, and he was remarking on the number of individual Ford clubs there are, sure he commented on the MK2 Cortina or something having 4 or 5 clubs alone and questioned how powerful the Ford clubs would be if they all amalgamated.

I wouldn't want a job on that committee tho .....

                cheers, Paul

The word Evo could always be changed - lol

As Ford sanctioned the reshelling of a MKI into a MKII I am interested in The AVO's point of view on this now common practise

Do you really think it's common nowadays for people to re-shell Mk1s into Mk2s? Err, why would they do that?

One obvious reason has got to be due to the government stopping the rolling 25 year threshold for Historic Vehicle Taxation Class it has now become beneficial to reshell a rotten knackered pre 1973 MKI into a MKII shell to continue the benefit of free road tax !

Only if you can find a new, unregistered Mk2 shell... Are they easy to find?

I believe genuine service shells had a unique "build plate" to signify they were a spare part and not just a triggers brush wannabee and the car I am aware of has this plate attached so all seems good

                            Some weird stuff in the UK .... over here a Mk1 is a Mk1 and a Mk2 is a Mk2.
Plus number plates stay with the car until it dies or it is exported.

It will always be a good debate

My English axle breaks - I replace with a 2.8 Capri Atlas

My 4 speed rocket gearbox breaks - I fit a Sierra 5 speed gearbox

My standard front struts leak - I fit 2.8 Capri front struts

My M16 calipers leak - I fit 2.8 Capri widened M16's and vented discs

My fuel tank begins leaking - I fit a MKI Capri fuel tank across the boot firewall

My 20 block pinto engine dies - I fit a 205 Block Pinto

My 9" drums wear out - I fit Sierra rear calipers and disc

** AT THIS POINT NOT MUCH LEFT OF THE ORIGINAL CAR **

Then to top it off my MKI shell rots to pieces - I fit a MKII shell

At which point does the original car become something else ?
