    Colour & Spec !

    Whats keeping me ???

Not black or yellow, sorry but they are just not my prefered colour !
I am overly fussy and will continue to search the UK for the car thats right for me

Its got to be red, with venitian being my 1st choice, sensible mods also a high priority. Custom with tan or black interior.

Might have planted a seed with someone thinking about selling

Glad to see my thread has had a good responce and has us all bringing thoughts & comments to the table.

Trouble is that compared to other classics, these cars are far too overpriced, and along with that so are the parts. Take a look at say a Trimph Dolomite, TR7, like them or not they are a lot cheaper to buy! With some Escorts now we are talking about E Type Jaguar prices, and there's a hell of a difference in quality. What's pushed up the prices is that everyone now wants one!

Exactley , supply and demand . Nice two door shells were £300 15 years ago but as they've got older + rarer the price is now upto £4000 .

We are only on this earth once and must be excused for having one selfish thing in life. We just like our toys that's all!

good thread this !! totaly agree prices have rocketed in the last 3 or so years , geuss i was lucky getting mine when i did , £1100 for a mk2 mex 7 years ago & £550 for a 2 door tax exempt mk1 about 2 years ago . i could sell the mk1 now unrestored as i bought it & easily make a big profit but its not about the money ! i like a lot on here do i for a hobby so although the cars are making good money at the minute most wouldnt sell unless they had to . the ones trying to make a fast buck probably not on here anyway or shouldnt be!

A worthwhile read this thread. Personally my cars are probably worth less than I have spent on them, but like any car if you care for it and want to keep it top condition you will have to maintain it properly and do jobs that although required or desired will not nessicerally add to the value.

The days of picking up a mint MK2 for peanuts are gone and eBay has meant that restoring these cars is going to be a lottery as there is always someone who will pay £££ for 'that' part.

If it wasn't for some top people on this forum helping each other I think that a lot of the resortation projects would end in the parts binwith the cars gone forever.

In my opinion valuing an RS to buy there are a few decisions I would want to make :

Is it in a colour I desire
Does it have unmarked interior (no speaker holes)
What extras does it have (7" Ronals, Big Valve Head, Webbers etc.)
                              Has the suspension/brakes been uprated
Does it have a long and complete service history (including receipts for work undertaken)
                              Is the shell/engine original
If restored has it been done properly and is there a photographic history to prove this

If you can tick these boxes and the car is what you want then it all comes down to how much you really want an RS
                              Cheers
