  • Engine furniture.

This has been on my mind for a while now. I want to build a coffee table with a difference.

How insane would it be to use a 2.0 pinto engine block, with head sump and internals removed, cleaned, painted and polished as the basis for a table?

I've seen Aston and Ferrari V8/V12's done before....

My idea is to get an oval shaped glass top, and have it engraved with Ford emblem etc, and then have 4 holes cut out so that the cylinder bores (rubber lined) could be used to house wine bottles or tv remotes maybe.

I'd maybe use the blue engine paint, and would definately mount the whole thing on a frame with lockable castors.

    Any thoughts?

Ok. The glass side of things looks easy enough. I'll need toughened glass, with the edges rounded, and although it'll be a bit pricey to get the holes cut out and the etching done, it'll be worth it.

I can get a block locally. Will cost next to nothing actually. Stripping it will be easy enough too. Blasting and lacquer are not a problem.

Frame wise though I could use some input. An engine stand set down low might work. This sort of thing wouldn't be too stable I reckon....

                  Any suggestions?

This sort of thing is much more sunstantial however. Only issue is the legs are uneven width and there's no height adjustment.

Nice, but I want (I think) a stripped down block only.

This sort of stand, fitted with castors, would be perfect I reckon.

They'd be spot on too. I wonder could I fit castors though?
