    Shame about the damage
I always use a heavy heavy duty "garage" style jack (like the sealey ones).
These crappy "lightweight" ones are a waste of money and potentially dangerous.
Never use block of wood to jack owt up with, only to "support" the engine or gearbox when removing/undoing mounts. It's all too easy for the car to slip off the blocks

Don't know if you couldn't warm the sump up (very carefully, not above 350°C), and give it some light "persuasion", you may be able to save it.

My car slipped of the jack at mallory park last week, jack was on the diff, luckily only damage was a crushed brake pipe (which i've only just noticed, after doing another 40+ laps)
Was under mex-its rally car putting gearbox in .Car was on stands i was lying on my back holding box, rick jacked up the front of the engine to allow a bit more room to allow better housing clearance, The f**kin thing fell of the jack and dropped back onto the stands ,i bricked it. Good job i had slipped the spares wheels under the wheels, if it had dropped off the stands i'm not sure i could have bench pressed a mk1 even with the weight saving thats been done hey rick

I agree with rwdrs. Looking at your picture you might get that dent out without any damage. If the Aluminium is fractured you could press it back to shape, get the fracture welded, file it flat to blend in, and it could be as good as it was before the accident.........might be worth a try! I'm sure there are some really good aluminium welders around.

Regards fitting the Mk 1 sump, it's only the "homologation" number that's different i.e. H77 instead of H73.
I fitted a Mk1 sump to a MkIV cortina lump once, I'm pretty sure there identical other than the part no's.

Hello, that sump is salvageable, warm up the ally with a gas axe and use a leather faced mallet or hit it with a block of wood over a bag of sand to help surpress you hitting the sump,it`s just like straigthening the rims on ally wheels when they have been kerbed, just don`t get it too hot.Regards Gixer1000.
