  • Sh*t Day

Had a really crap day today with the car, was a nice day so got it out the garage for a bit of a clean. After that noticed that the Speedo cable was hanging down so jacked the car up on the front cross member with my bit of wood to spread the weight and the next thing the jack had slipped off the cross member and ended up on the front part of the sump, leaving a nice big dent. Now the big end hits the sump when you turn it over by hand. Luckily I have a spare sump.
What’s the best /easiest way to swap over a sump, don’t fancy taking the engine out if I can get around it.

Use a support across inner wings

Lash engine to support with the lifting eyes

      Remove cross member

Then you can remove refit sump

You're not on your own Martin. Did you have a crappy little trolley jack like mine?

Last year I was jacking mine up, with a block placed on those ever so tiny claws they seem to fit on these jacks, when the block slipped out helped by the fact that it was lubricated by plenty of waxoyl on the chassis rails. The end result was a dent in the floor, nothing serious but annoying. I was lucky that I was not underneath it and the wheels were close to the ground, so minimal damage. Not as bad as your experience, but still annoying. But why do they not make the claws the same size as a garage jack?........you can't even fit it under the diff safely, they are useless.

          Tim.
