What do I like, well, I liked going to Ireland this year, it was the show highlight of the year for me. Great welcome from the boys and some eye watering cars. Not the 'same old tat' we see at the ever dwindling regional days this side of the water. I also enjoyed the wacky camping at Ford Fair (hypnotist) and Brooke Meadow (gatecrashing random parties with spence and frosty in nightys) The car show was secondary on both of these. Its all about the good times. The McRae weekend was also pretty awesome too. I dont think you went to any of these but you missed out big time.Last edited by topaz; 13-10-2008, 10:55.

Historically concours at national day has never been discussed at the concours meeting, and has always been done "behind closed door's" by the committee. However this year the committee members in attendance at the meeting agreed to listen to the attending memberships wishes for the first time.
-----------------------
One of the benefits put forward for the the 2 show rule was as a means of coercing semi retired cars (and their owners) back out to show at regional days, rather than just bringing them out once a year.
Over the past show season I personally feel that the bringing in of the 2 show rule has been brilliant, as it has meant that I have been awarded 5 second place trophy's, rather than just all 1st's
On all 5 occasions this year when I didn't get a first place, I was beaten by 3 different RS's that each attended 2 (and only 2) regional days, all before national day.
Consider also that only one of these cars attended a single regional day in 2007. This year they all put in the extra time and effort to support 2 regional shows, by showing their excellent examples of concours RS's
So yes I would say it has been great to compete against some brilliant cars that if it wasn't for the rule may not have been seen out until national day.
Robbo brought his red RS1800 out to show at lullworth regional day and I believe was planning on showing at castle combe as well if it wasn't for the rubbish weather that weekend
Compare that to after national say - brantingham, paxton & pickering and I was back to being the only one in class
------------------------------
However the down side was also considered at the meeting, as the rule may also put off people showing at national day.
This was thought through. Those members that took the effort to attend the meeting were of the opinion that if people were that passionate about showing there RS's then they would be able to make the effort to attend 2 regional days. (one of which could be their local show)
A vote was taken by those in attendance, and it was agreed to try a requirement of 2 shows. ( I believe the original suggestion from the floor was more than 2 ! ! ! )
------------------------------
Looking back what should have been realised is that there will always be members that now only want to show at national day. And even when the option was given to attend in "Non-Log Book" pre & post 81 classes they would rather boycott* showing in national day concours than enter against other models of RS to their own.
Sad but true
-----------------------------
The reason that the rule went through was due to the vote taken at the concours meeting by the RSOC members in attendance. What needs to be considered is that the members that voted were/are heavily biased towards supporting multiple regional days and showing their faces & cars throughout the year.
This however is not representative of members as a whole as it does not take into account those that only want to attend a 1 or 2 regional days & concentrate of the 1 big show. For this reason as Minshy as said on the RSOC BB, it will go back to the committee deciding how national day should be done this coming year.
-----------------------------------
Looks like may be in the minority for wanting more competition at regional days though.

I never said your car was TAT, nor any other concourse car. The 'Same old tat' comment was in retrospect of the same cars, same field, same regional groups, same traders with same old crap, same butty vans selling same old hotdogs, same rain, same raffle tickets, same 'wait until 4pm' for the same old cups. BORING, and a waste of a day/money, for me anyway.
I think you have bought your gold cup, the same way Gerard (who was in the same class) could of bought the gold cup by taking his Mexico to every show. That's not competition is it. Your competition was with ONE car. Do you really feel proud you won against ONE CAR? Does all that money time and effort feel worthwhile? do you feel proud? Well I wouldnt and thats why I dont show. I already have my prize, its in the garage. I'd rather have a dull banana than a shiny plantpot.
Gerards X-pack at Cumbria summed it up for me. Unplaced ! WHAT A JOKE! I'd rather own that one car than all of the bufty cars put together, for me, that car wins the x-factor. The club has little or no respect for originality, could that be jealousy?
I dont know what the answer is, as I said before, its too anal, the RSOC has brought this on itself with the ever increasing bar that has been raised in the 80s/90s with the detailed undersides and tyre label stickers. I really feel for the 'log book cordinator' Dave Easton, For him, its a matter of spinning plates to keep existing competitors happy (seldom) and trying to introduce new people to the frey.
Good luck for 2009 Wayne.Last edited by topaz; 13-10-2008, 11:32.

so because there is only me and another car in class we should not show? ive really enjoyed this year because allan who has the other car that shows against is getting really close to beating me and has improved his car alot more than i have this year, which has made me work alot harder to win! dave anyone can have a LOG BOOK? why you not show this year? what i find hard is the concours people want it to stay and the people who dont do concours what it changing? why?

it makes no sense, if Alan would of paid to go to the other 10 shows he did not attend he would of won the gold cup, even if his car lost to yours on the days both cars attended.
If I had nothing better to do, I could buy a £500 shed off ebay and drag it round to every regional show, and not even clean it, it would still win the gold cup, even if i lost on the days that other cars attended.
the gold pot its worthless with no competition, hence why you drove over yours
