It's the "in crowd" that cause the high prices, i've watched it happen with the mK3 corty due to LOM (not to the same level i know).
People who just want to look good, allways seem to spend more to get the look thats "in" than those who just looked "in" before it was "in"
that sounded better in me head

i dont know about the bubble leaking , but my reckoning it will burst big time all the mk1 and mk2s have risen way to high way to fast , there aint going to be no gradual slow down , just a huge drop , but what the **** i am still keeping my car , i dont care if its half what i paid for it , its mine all mine, and it wont be the first time i have been in this situation if it happens.
i remember in the last boom and bust a few years back classic car weekly was going mad about how many triumph stags had been stolen, not surprising when they where insured for £9000 and had dropped in a matter of months to £3500 those theiving beggars must have been busy .
all got you cars well insured boys

i dont pretend to be an expert as you all know on here, but i do think the prices depend on what someone is willing to pay not what there worth. 20k for a 30yr old escort is a lot of money bearing in mind it doesnt have alot of history and it couldnt really be enjoyed in the true sense of the word. however if thats what someone is willing to pay then great, that doesnt mean however that the next mint rs2000 that comes for sale will do the same!
personal opinion and taste counts for a lot. in my opinion java green is a lovely colour and i would rather have that. but i wouldnt part with 20k for a great 1.sigpic

This is a bit of a negative thread now...
'NORTHERN ROCK ' for example saw people queuing to get out of it all.
Surely we don't want to start too much unnecessary panic in the Escort scene do we?

Ruddy stated what his opinion is and somehow this thread turned into worthersville????
anyway back on topic Mk2's will go up just because there are less of them around but more because of the rarer the mk1 gets the more desirable it will be for rally boys to begin rallying the mk2 again in historic events I have noticed a number of 4 door mk1's appearing on stages recently so 2dr mk1 shells are getting rarer and when that happens the mk2 becomes more desirable to rally and people will pay good money fot a top drawer shell especially a 2dr mk2 now only a week ago I was offerred 10k for mine in bits not that i would take it mind you but the offer was from over the irish sea tbh.
Mexico's and 2000's will generate decnt money all day long was there a bubble in the market yes I think there is is it going to burst no dont think it will but i think it will reduce in size over the next 18 months with a small drop off in prices but come the summer I think they will begin to get a little surge. This time of year is never a true reflection of the classic market best time to look i would say is around the end of April start of May time as this is when loads of people suddenly decide they need a classic car for summer also it is a time of year when people like us decide we need a new project car etc as do a number of people who will never finish them and this also drives the prices in the market place.
