  • 5 Speed box or not

I'm at the point of fitting a 5 spped box in place of the 4 speed. But because the car is almost standard should i do it?

I know it will make it far more usable, but will it affect the value?

use the alloy blocks to fit the 5 speed so it can be put back any time very easy

        nope dont bother

first thing on my list was to put a 5 speeder in my car, then I done the lakes tour (800 miles in 3 days) and it didnt bother me at all

bearing in mind I had just come from a 6 speed 968 clubsport thats a pretty big statement

so i kept the better change of a 4 speed

Gary (escortrs2) on here was my passenger on the lakes tour and he converted his car back to a 4 speed when we got back

They don't fit. I have tried to put one in my red RS and the box hit the mounts. I had to remove the tunnel mounts and move them back. As i'll be doing with this one.

don't forget to retain the four speed gear knob , as this will keep it looking standard , thats if you can remember where 5th is

ive done more BIG miles in the X this year than ever before and i find the 4 speed perfectly ok for long haul journeys - ive never even considered a conversion, especially now the tranX gears are fitted

with the 2.8 , you have to mod with the shaft i think, t9 will go straight on
