Just go ahead and build it Paul. At the end of the day a mexico is a
mexico. Just cause its a different ID so what its still an RS ID. But
I supose if you don't feel comfortable to do so move it on but I think
it would be a mistake as geting caught up over something like this is
only a minor mishap. You could always GRP4 it .

Just get the thing finished and put the Mexico ID on it.

It's a Mexico shell with a Mexico ID, what could be better.

I know of several reshelled cars that are well known.

The Popster debate was held at the AVO show, it's not so much who's done it but who hasn't
            Cheers Rob.

All the nonsense with shell numbers is completely exaggerated - probably just because someone in 1911 decided to put the serial number of a car on the chassis and not on the windscreen for example.

You could buy the shell as a spare part in 1979 couldn't you?

You could buy the bulkhead pad, too, in 1979.

If the bulkhead pad's knackered now, what do you do? A: you look for a good used one.

So if the shell's knackered, what do you do? A: you look for a good used one.

                  What's the difference?

Being pedantic, the chassis number isn't stamped on "the shell". It's stamped on the strut top plate. So does that mean someone who replaced the entire bodywork around the strut top plate would be all legal and purist? Who defines where the "shell" starts and ends? The "A" Pillar? The rear wheel arch? The inner front wing?

In the final analysis, FFS it's only a car - it's not a forgery of the Koh-i-Nor diamond!

paul, i have read your original post a few times , and dont understand.
so you bought the i.d for osm, and now the person that sold you the i.d. says it was crushed years ago, and he has sold the i.d. to someone else? surely the i.d. should of been returned to dvla , when the car was crushed?
also, the red shell. so the previous owner re-shelled an original mex, into a gl shell as the rs was too rotton? if thats it in the resto section, is dosnt look bad enough to re-shell to me. it would be easier to repair that shell, than swap everything over and convert a gl shell to rs spec?
if you bought that as a bare rotton rs shell, why bother fitting it up with engine/running gear and trim, when your going to be stripping it down to restore anyway?
                      confused????
