  • Subaru WRX powered Mk1 Escort

    hi guys ,

Thought i would just start a thread on my project , early days still but home it should move allong in the next few months quite a bit !

    My donor car :

and what it looked like a few ours later :

and would have been rude not to see if it still drove

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

I will be shortening the floorpan to suite the escort ( basically )

Escort shell is being collected next week , then i will shorten after i have the shell.

    should be good fun

I'm not a purist at all but isn't fitting the running gear etc from the sub, taking the driving experience of owning an escort out of the equation??

Wants running rear wheel drive someone used to do a conversion kit to make the scoobys rear wheel drive. Think It will be a good project but it will never sound like an escort tho!

Looks like it's going to be a fun project.

The only thing with putting an escort on a 4x4 floorpan is the width of the track.
The wheel offset always looks off & the arches need to be stretched.

I'd like to see someone section a Mk1 shell so even with standard arches you could run wheels with a bit of a rim to them.

Sorry just thinking out loud, well done for having the balls to take on such a huge task.
                  Mark....

Good idea. We have thought about that with the minis we have done

Even had a friend that has done it. But needed a custom front screen made

We shall see how it goes

Get the shell braced up and get that plasma fired up!! Looking forward to seeing your fabrication. Still waiting for someone to do a sub floorpan'd mk2 but as said arches seem to be the isuue. Good luck and crack on

It looks like your going to have fun and i geuss it will be a lot lighter than the origional subaru .
Can't wait to see this one unfold , Building an escort no matter whats underneath has to be better than leaving the shell in my garage doing nothing

I started this conversion on my escort around 2006, it is surprising how well the shell actually fits. The impreza floor pan needs 120mm cut from the wheelbase, I did this along the seam running across the floor just in front of the rear seat.
Due to family commitments I didn't have a lot of time on it so when someone made me an offer for the unfinished project I took it.
Here's my build thread on turbosport, the new owner kept updating the tread and finished the car about 2 years
