went to see the car yesterday, back from the blasters, looks quite messy, floor is all wrinkled, loads of dodgy patches everywhere, roof even has a big dent in it, amazing what can be hidden with a bucket full of filler! rear arches have been redone badly, so gonna put on fibreglass forest arches and 8x13 minilites. Andy has sourced a load of panels already including a complete floor piece...

looks like a cracking project mate! if it was me i'd go all steel arches, going to be an awsome job i think!

The rear arches have already been repaired badly - so rather than redo them thought it would be a good excuse to arch the car. Had a look around at cars with steel arches, but ignoring the slightly wobbly bluestripe on the door - i preferred the look of the arches on the RS1800 'OUH' - looking at those, i might be wrong, but they appear to be fibreglass ones. Just seemed a bit more period looking. Although of course its hardly a historic spec car with a YB on throttle bodies under the bonnet! But its not a rally car build, so i dont need them to be able to take a knock.

It's amazing what your car goes through over its lifetime mate. pre resto pics looks great , then you start to uncover it's past life & all the nasty work previous owners undertake.... it will look the dogs when done as there is no going back now mate... keep up with the pics !!!!

They are definately fibreglass arches.

Rear ones look ok but the front ones are naff (imhp) cos they dont blend in at the rear of the cars front wing

What's so amazing here is that after looking at the first pics of what appears to be a nice clean example, how surprised you would be to find all that bodging that has been carried out over the years. One thing to learn is that you don't ever buy a car, without inspecting it thoroughly first.

The nice thing about this particular example is that at last the right guys are on the job to put it right and the car will be restored to it's former splendour. A very satisfying thought for the owner and a pleasure for everyone that will see it in the future....well done!

Some very 'talented' people have been near that with the pigeon sh&t gun in its lifetime!!
Maybe one exceptional person done all of it!
It,ll be worth the pain and expence in the end tho
