Thank you. Well regarding the seats the car came with the super/twincam black vinyl rear ones when I bought it & I already had a rough set of front ones in the same pattern.

From photo's I've seen of Sports some seem to have different types, standard type with vertical pattern, also fabric type with horizontal pattern..

Also this press photo one has the super/twincam type, rear seat is just visible if you zoom in on the photo, although I don't know if these are vinyl or cloth??

So as i already had a set of the super/twincam version I've gone with them Whether they are correct or not I'm not really certain but I'm pleased with them, they are more comfortable than the standard type I've got in the blue mk1, and they look fairly standard. I suppose I could always pick up a set of standard ones maybe at a later date

        cheers, Stu.

The press shot is most likely to be cloth, although I have often seen launch/press cars with slightly different detail from the main production run cars. They were often produced in a hurry and were fitted out with the closest of whatever was available, the theory being that it would not be noticed, and by the time the normal production cars arrived in the showroom then they should be to the correct spec. The plain vinyl seats were in fact the standard issue for the Sport, to match the rubber mats and the basic everything else. The fabric seats were a factory option available for the Sport, fitted with an unusual cloth on the early ones, and when the facelift model (six dash clocks) came along then the option seats were fitted with a grey coloured beta cloth as fitted to the early 1300E, this had a final change to black beta on the last models (mk2 floor pan) later 73> Press cars and also cars used for brochures were often fitted with all available options. The burgundy Sport press car that I drove (mentioned previously to you) had the fabric seat option fitted to it.

          • Thank you, some useful information there
I suspect then that the standard type seats on my Sport have been replaced for the mex/twincam type I have now at sometime during it's life.
I'll have to use the ones I have now as they've cost me a fortune to have re-trimmed but I don't think they look too out of place in there.

            cheers, Stu.

You're welcome Stu. Seats got a lot of wear over the years and your present seats which are nice, were most likely to have been removed from a scrap gt or super, these would have been plentifull and they would have made desirable replacements for the old basic original Sport seats. Personally I did not like the original fitted vinyls as they had the appearance of a deluxe seat, which I did not think was good enough for a Sport, but at the beginning of the run Ford insisted on building it all from base parts to keep the cost down, something they made a u-turn later on in production. The underlying intention was always to keep it basic though as they did not want to add too many goodies, as it would have just ended up too close to the spec of a gt.

              • I have a Daytona yellow 1972 1300 Sport and that came with the black vynl seats but with brown corduroy inlay on the squab and back support for front and rear seats. The brown corduroy is where you'd expect to see the aerotech pattern.

It's getting there, just a couple of bits to finish & it's ready for an MOT. Will update the thread shortly.

                        cheers, Stu.

                            • Hi all, thought I'd better update the thread. The Sport passed it's MOT on Thursday, although it just scraped through with the brakes, still had air in the system but bled them again yesterday & it seems better now. Also the tappets are a little bit noisy for my liking but I can redo them once the engine has run in a bit & it should hopefully quieten them down a bit. Can't use it on the road yet as got to sort the tax out now to get it changed to Historic as it's been off the road since 1990! Anyway here's some photo's....

                              cheers, Stu.
