Bit more done to the Darlington dustbin today. Cut the grotty bit out of the bottom of the c pillar, glad i cut as much out as i did as the piece behind was gone as well as the front bit. heres the piece i cut out


Made a repair to the piece behind then made a new piece up and welded in then dressed up

Then thought id give the donor bulkhead a clean up and see how much of it i could use to repair mine with. Did it with wire wheel in grinder, it was very rusty so ended up blasting it.

Turned out to be ok for what i need, the left hand corner ended up a bit like a tea bag tho.

Then gave it a quick coat of zinc primer

Should look a lot nicer than this

I,ve got one of the Clarke type spot welders, for the money its a good tool, just lacks clamping pressure with long arms fitted.
That other welder is lovely!!

Bootfloor still do sort which shouldnt be to hard, back panel to sort but i bought a lower rear valence and now wish id bought a complete rear panel so if anyone needs a lower rear valence its in the for sale section. Other than that im hoping its mainly welding the sills to the inner sills once its on the spit and then hopefully i wont find to many nastys while stripping underseal etc off underside of floor and chassis legs etc.

Must admit getting real sick of welding now just want it finished lol

Geoff the big spot welders an unreal piece of kit its got loads of adjustment on it, suitable for welding thin steel and even thick aluminium. Im very lucky to rent my unit as my landlord has all sorts of goodies to hand.

Not much done tonight, spent half an hour looking at what good bits i had left of my bulkhead and what good bits i have on donor bulkhead. Got it all marked up ready to cut and start fitting up tomorrow night hopefully. Decided to remove heater bubble as it makes life easier to re-instate the lip around the bulkhead and to check the condition of the panel behind, luckily it was all good!

Gave it a quick wire wheel over to remove 30plus years of dust muck and dead leaves. Also gives me chance to remove the dents out of the heater bubble now without just filling them. Think il blast the bubble then refit after the shells been blasted and etch primed.

Well i got the bulkhead in tonight and i must say what a transformation, i actually looks like a mk2 bulkhead now!

Struggled to get a good pic as theres not much space at the front of the car but you can get the idea. the inside looks loads better too but still need to tidy the pans up and do the welds around the front of the tunnel once its upside down

True bit it is starting to do my head in a bit now! Hoping once it's upside down there isn't to much more to do but if I find loads of nastys lurking I might just have a break from it for a week or 2 till I get my interest back. I want to get it done asap but also don't want to rush it and make a mess

I know exactly what you mean mate, you start to see a finish line and instead of continuing the steady plod, you begin to gallop and thats when mistakes are made and the quality drops. Just keep at it mate and like you said, take a break from it if you need too, because you know yourself if you do make a mess you will only end up stripping it all out and doing it again and then you will feel like you are dropping further back than making progress, its a vicious circle

Managed to get the car on the spit tonight and had a little scrape at the underseal with the chisel scraper, comes off nice when its cool, just chips very easy, the rubbersided factory sealer takes a bit longer but still the chisel scrapers a nice method doesnt smell, leave any residue or take much effort which is a bonus

Had a bit of a poke around and thankfully didnt find anything to bad, looks like there a small bit that needs sorting out where the front chassis leg meets the centre but in fairness stuff like thats easy to fabricate compared to the stuff on the rear tubs etc. Going to spend a few nights cleaning the underside up will be a much needed break from welding and grinding
