Well, after a lot of soul searching, realising I just don´t have the time to spend on the car, and realising I´ve spent nearly 15 years alone in the garage with the bloody thing, I took the decision yesterday to part company with my old friend Jaffa the orange Escort































































for a few weeks while it´s in the paint shop!! Yippee, can´t wait. Most removable bits like doors, bonnet, boot, nose are there now. Rolling shell gets picked up sometime this week.

It´s not the lying under the car that knackers you, it´s the getting up and back under again when you need another spanner or whatever! It really is a dream - saved up over a couple of years before I could justify the cost!

i know the feeling Andrew, these days if i fall over i dont get up straight away, in fact i have a look around to see if anything neds doing whie i am down there

The deed is done. The die is cast. The bird has flown the nest.

Jaffa got trailored to the paintshop today. Bit of a delay as we had freezing rain and black ice last Wednesday so the bodyshop was suddenly booked out for a week!

It's a really funny feeling that, when it comes back, I've "just" got to assemble the bits. No more rust removal. No more welding. No more filing and sanding.

It was in 1990 that I took the car off the road for a "tidy up". 19 YEARS FFS !!

I'd gone so much into a "must look for that bit next year" mode that I'm suddenly realising that I now need a few last minute bits in a hurry!

Had a stroke of luck with finding a wing top relay. Sorting out the garage I found that it is the EXACT same relay which is on one of my steering columns . The one on the steering column is as bright and shiny as the day it was fitted! No photos at the moment as the camera is playing up.

Very pleased today when I called past the paint shop. Work is well in progress. Doors and bootlid have been primed and "fillered" (not sure what the correct english term is - it's the spray coat of high solids to allow the final surface imperfections to be evened out). Bonnet is proving to be a surprise. They said there are lots of undulations and peaks and troughs in it, so it's having a thorough polyester filler build up to level it all out.

They then want to leave all alone for a good week to let the primers and filler coats fully harden out before final sanding off and painting.

I'm still in a state of:

a) excitement
b) panic!
