By the look of it you place the gauge on the block set it and then place on the piston and the difference in height is what needs to come off
Difficult roads often lead to beautiful places

              Correct andy

Zero the dial gauge on the frashly skimmed block (only skim enough to make it "flat")

Put gauge over the bore and bring piston to TDC

The "extra" is how much the pistons require removing off the crown to bring them flush with block

Finally been able yesterday and today to comandeer the lathe and milling machine at my friends engineering firm (cheers Doug at DJL Engineering)

With Dougs help (well he did all of the lathe work and set-up the milling machine for me - lol) the pistons are machined and the conrods have an "oil squirt" hole machined into them

Note:- Cozzy 4x4 rods do not have the oil hole in them as the 4x4 Cozzy has a seperate oil squirt rail to lube and cool the pistons in the bore.

Without this hole the little ends and bores would suffer oil starvation and not last very long

Doug machined some "soft jaws" in the lathe to accept the pistons to ensure no damage or markings on the pistons body when being held whilst turning them down

Then all 4 pistons weight checked to retain correct balance.

Con rods then set-up on milling machine to pick-up on bearing oil feed hole and angle up to the piston/bore

Then again all 4 con rods are weight checked

All ready now to begin putting Cossie Si's Pinto together (at last)

                More pics along the way
