  • G223's Mk 2 more door

Hi guys, ive always loved escorts mk1s and 2s and when this Mk2 1.3 L turned up not too far away i had to give it a chance well some money later and here she is, taxed for 3 months and motd for 12 i think it was worth it

Im goin to try and keep this thread up to date if anyones interested that is lol

It needs a few panels and work done on others, it needs 2 sills, drivers wheelarch and both quarterpanels need work done around the lights, the underside is suprisingly solid needing no welding done, the same goes for the rest of the car, although it needs a complete rub down and all rust treated and a full respray done aswelll.

After shes been turned back into a solid car my plans are to rebuild the suspension and breaks and uprate them subtley, just enough to make the car handle well and be fun to drive, take the 1.3 and a 1.6 and build a 1.7 running a fast road cam, ported head, twin webers and a full stainless exhaust system, decent stereo fitted out of sight and a immobiliser and alarm.

Thanks for the support, its greatly appriciated and needed haha, wasnt sure if anyone would be interested since its not a RS and im not going for a concours winner or even close to an orignal spec restoration haha in all honestly wasnt sure what people would make of it.

One thing ill say is, its an original Northern Ireland reg'd car which is nice, quite alot of the old school escorts you see over here have been english cars.

And i made a nice discovery tonight too, under some terrible seat covers the origanl seats are immiculate, the drivers has a tear at the shoulders but the fabric is perfect, foams collapsed on all seats though

well guys the words of support are great, really anyone who knows a little about cars has supported this porject already and the amount of offers for help has been astonishing, didnt think anyone would care but apparently a mk2 has a nice habit of opening up peoples memories to their old mk2s

Ill do my best to keep the thread up to date and any progress i make ill try and get a few pictures of, thanks again for the words of support guys really is inspiring to push on and get finished even quicker

right guys, so got stuck in today and stripped out the interior ready for the welding, found a few horrors at the front A Pillars and a few holes in the floor, next ive to get the front wings off and see what evils lurk behind them

The pictures are terrible quality but ive no money for a camera for now but maybey get one for christmas to document all work done on the car

Well we made good progress tonight, got to the worst of the rot and bad repairs so atleast we know what were up against for the drivers side, in some areas its better than expected and others worse heres the list for the
                          DRIVERS SIDE
                          1. front of scuttle panel at the rear top of arch is gone
                          2. strut top is wafer thin
                          3. entire kick panel gone
                          4. front of sill gone
                          5. bottom of A pillar gone
                          6. front of sill gone
                          7. few patches needed at top of sill and along sill
                          8. some patches along floor of sill
                          9. rear of sill gone
                          10. arch gone
                          11. petrol well gone
                          12. bottom of quarterpanel gone

So 12 sections really, its quite bad but its all time consuming to fix, its not costing alot in panels or work time as work time is free and the panels arent expensive

Well pictures speak a thousand words so here they are:

Well there you have it for now, if nothing else, atleast you can rest assured that this rotten old goldylocks is getting brought back from the brink of the grave

worse than i was expecting to be honest mate, but, like you say, nothing there that cant be put right, just going to take time to get the whole thing sorted, acording to my welder (brother who is enthusiastic and a very good welder/mechanic), he hopes to have the car solid and the bodywork sorted again by christmas
