I was sold the carbs and manifold together as one unit, having been decribed as "MINT". Advised that they run fine and had been used recently undertaking a substantial drive.

This has proved not to be the case.

Having taken the car to a carb specialist (equipped with a rolling road) they set about installing the twin-cables. Due to not being supplied with the correct pedal clips/attachments at the time (although being told I was) they had to spend a bit of time adapting my pedal to suit, had to source the correct pedal attachment etc. Frustrating but not the end of the world.

Then it was onto the tuning and balancing of the carbs. This turned into what I can only describe as a nightmare.

To start with at least one of the seals on the manifold (rare type no longer replaceable) had gone and the manifold was sucking in more air than a hoover causing major mix issues etc. After much deliberation, the only solution was to get a new manifold. That was £132.00

The boys at Burton Power did me proud and got it to me pronto so that work on the carbs could continue.

      Then things got worse........................

All the jets need replacing, the misabs also needed replacing and this basically meant the time spent, doubled instantly. These parts had to be sourced which bumped up the cost.

In the end, the carbs are running and they sound well, but I have been hit with a large bill and have had to shell out on parts I didnt think I needed. The total finishing bill to get all this right is susbtantial.

      Naturally I feel very aggrieved.
Dave lets have this right, never once did I describe these carbs as "MINT". I told you they had been removed from my car a month previously and were running fine. You came round to my house inspected them and must have thought they looked ok. I accepted less for them than your final offer for them.

The single cable and pedal arrangement came straight off my car. The pedal had been previously modded by an arrangement I have seen many times before, basically a hole drilled in the old pedal to accept a burton cable, I did not think twin cables were needed?

I bought the car from Emily on here and the 40's had been running well in a 2litre mex. After driving the car home over 100 miles in mixed roads and starting the car every other day for the next couple of weeks I started taking non standard parts off the car to return it to standard. On that basis I sold the carbs as "running fine". I dont know what misabs are but it sounds like the 2 litre jets were too big for a 1600 pinto.

The 40s were removed, not split from the manifold and just cleaned externally.

You are saying you were missold the carbs and that I am a liar.

I think you have put lot of trust in the fault diagnosis of the rolling road company, was this the same place that Aled had to spend money out after having his 38 degas rejetted?

I appreciate you have spent a lot on your car Dave but I sold the parts to you in good faith.

not getting involved in the arguement, but sometimes re-jetting and new chokes can cost more than second hand carbs/manifold themselves.ive had dellorto 40,s later progression type which will run a 2ltr pinto, but would be no good for a 1600.
we,re here for a good time-not for a long time!

          Thanks for your reply.

I am not going to get into an argument on here, but I will just send you the message that I still have where you describe them as "Mint".

Yes mate, shes taxed and ready to be enjoyed.

Unfortunately, a potential house move and other expenses since xmas have limited the number of out of season jobs. Im hoping that we can enjoy the car for this season now and pick up where I left off come Oct/Nov.

Alan, we're booked in and fingers crossed we will be there. The North Wales Mafia will be coming up and hope to meet others on route and join the convoy.

Please make sure you come over and say hello, still getting to know people off here.
