  • Surely the onus is on the insurer / broker to personally inspect the car before they agree to issuing any policy documents. This would avoid any "logbook cars" that don't exist becoming insured.
I'm not saying it is necessary for all cars, but ones of value of say above 10K would be advisable.
As an owner I would much rather have my insurer / broker paying me a visit to check the spec and value of my car because it would give both the owner and insurer confidence in eachother.

I have a rally car insured with a broker purely because the owner of the company goes rallying themselves and sees my car / talks to me on a regular basis.

This is what owners clubs do. They will verify the car then value it accordingly. To me, when YUE destroyed itself. The club valuation was invaluable.
It's the people who put the ridiculous valuations on their own cars that maybe need the insurer to look at them before going ahead.

      • Unfortunately an owners club for Stage Rally cars does not exist. This is why it becomes very important to find someone with specialist knowledge who knows the cars and values of their parts.
"Modified car" policies are not suitable for rally cars.

        • Should be a limit on self valuations

          • Ian at Hagerty might I suggest you ask for a copy of the MSA issued Rally car log book? It will have both the name of the owner and the full specification in detail including some of the serial numbers of the fitted parts. The MSA will also keep records of the previous owners on file. Worth checking!!!

Could your local Motor Club value it??

              • Like I said, find a broker who knows the car thoroughly. There is no need for a club valuation.

I now understand why my insurer asks for a copy of the MSA logbook for their files as part of the specialist rally car policy. It would be very rare to find 2 cars each with the DVLA and MSA logbooks identical.
Remember that MSA logbooks have an embossed colour photo attached and a watermark which cannot ever be copied.
A stage rally car should be exactly as advertised in the sale - i.e. one with an MSA logbook or historic identity papers. I wonder if this car has them?

I viewed the one Tyron has some time ago and there are quite a few differences inside etc.
I agree very very similar, but not the same car I've seen at tyrons.
                  Hi Wayne

You clearly have a foggy memory about details of the car.

Im loged in on my mates Rhidians account who has commented earlier.
I am John Morgan and I bought the car originially from Tyron in 2011 for the Legends Boucles De Spa in Belgium. We used the car on 5 events that included the Ypres Rally & again Spa in 2012.

If you blow the fake picture up from the front above the spotlight bolt on the left hand side there is a burn mark caused by My Tig when I was fabricating the lamp brackets. I built the stack dash etc and all the wireing panels etc in the car. There are hundreds of details that I can prove their both the same car. I could even point you in the direction of the scruitineering stickers that are evident on both pictures. The picture is also fuzz around the back and they forgot to cut the rear spoiler out when they were photoshopping it.

If you want to see more pics of the REAL CAR - MPY568P then by all means add me on facebook - I am Fairfield John Morgan on there.

This whole thing has greatly upset Tyron Gerbez with a lot of people questioning whether he was involved. We are all the victims of what appears to be a very nasty fraud.

The car will again be competing on Legends of Spa this year as I did a deal with Tyron today and bought the old girl back.

I would love to get my old RS back, although since it disappeared in 2006 I'm probably being a bit hopeful!

If any of the eagle eyed among you spot any details from my car, I'd love to know, as I'm sure would Footman James!

You don't need a discount Steven, at £130.00 fully comp for my MK1, including the backup of a team of professionals passionate about classic cars it's great value.

Even my old shed, which was rear-ended recently and is in the bodyshop now, has been given the go ahead for a full fix and we're not sure what the final bill is yet (obviously we know roughly), Hagerty just gave me the go ahead to get it fixed without any hassle whatsoever.

Boncaster could probably learn a bit

                        • It is the same car but there are quite a few things that were different when I saw it first time.

I understand the situation is being resolved with the car, but could I add Tyron gerbez is NOT guilty of any wrong doing.

                          • Let's all really hope that this situation does not arise again, and the culprits are given a sentance that will deter others who may be thinking on the same lines,to make some cash. The police will decide and prosecute the guilty, and they will now ALL the facts far better than anyone else on this site.
Well done also to the guys who knew from the start that there was something fishy going on here ,with this P sorry T registered car !
