Surely the onus is on the insurer / broker to personally inspect the car before they agree to issuing any policy documents. This would avoid any "logbook cars" that don't exist becoming insured.
I'm not saying it is necessary for all cars, but ones of value of say above 10K would be advisable.
As an owner I would much rather have my insurer / broker paying me a visit to check the spec and value of my car because it would give both the owner and insurer confidence in eachother.
I have a rally car insured with a broker purely because the owner of the company goes rallying themselves and sees my car / talks to me on a regular basis.
