I agree very very similar, but not the same car I've seen at tyrons.

Your RS is stolen never to be seen again..... ( because you're the only one who knows where it is) claim the lovely over inflated agreed value insurance, wait 6 months....... Sorry spend 6 months searching for the prefect replacement car..... or do I mean wait whilst original car is being painted in its resplendant new colour that happens to match the lovely eBay logbook purchase)

I don't know why Alan gets so uptight about these eBay actions, what a fantastic idea, I get 25k. keep my car and no one gets hurt. Lovely jubberly.

Mmmmm, not getting involved! Tyron is a good friend of mine.
I'm sure there is an explanation to this?

I agree the above pic looks like the same car?

As some of you can guess by my screen name, I work for Hagerty Classic Car insurance. This case does indeed appear to be far more complex than we first thought. When it was brought to my attention that this type of car has been stolen, it made common sense to go public with a photograph of the vehicle and some rough details regarding the car. The classic car world is a small one, with the historic rally cars being even smaller. If a vehicle is stolen it is of course in both the owners and the Insurers company interest to recover the car, my aim was to recover the vehicle or search out as much information as I could.
I cannot thank you guys enough for your efforts in identifying relevant details on both photos of the cars, I am pretty sure most of you will have an educated guess over what I suspect has happened here. However it is reassuring that the Ford community has come together to help root out a growing problem, and of course help convict those responsible.
In the mean time I will be hanging around for the long term, as those of you who have spoken to me will know I am a complete and utter car nut, and whilst I do not own an Escort (can my educated?) I am a huge motorsport fan and currently own a Manta and a couple of Classic BMW`s I can fully appreciate the fun of the MK1/2 Escorts and the part they played in rallying of the period.

                      • I will not be plugging our services here or any other forum I am part of, first of all I come on these forums to get involved in the cars, also I am sure it is against various forums rules to advertised services. After saying that it appears we insure a fair few Escorts on here so we must be doing something right.

As previously mentioned, everyone on here has been extremely helpful and I feel it is only correct to let the Police do the investigation from here. As with most thefts or scams there is always an innocent party, and comments made could be misinterpreted.

On a more personal note, the sale of Log book for Escorts(and Land Rovers etc) has been going on for a while now, and for years it has been seen as a crime with no victim. I hope this case brings people attention to the fact that those V5`s and Tags will only be used for fraudulent uses, and as Escorts become more a more valuable thieves will see this cars as an easy target(And yes I understand what happens in the rally world with MSA log books etc).

                          • Ian can the insurance industry help here, can they start to badger eBay to try and put a stop to one market place. It would appear to be in the interest of your industry to start getting proactive.

There is obviously a problem in the Ford scene and long as half the community doesn't care we're buggered to be honest.

Needs people to carry on standing up and highlighting these problems.

The easy answer is Yes, Whilst it is very difficult to get an industry wide change. I for one keep a record of all number plates I have seen advertised or "donor" shells. If anybody else has a similar spread sheet I would be very keen to have a chat and build up a data base.

Whilst Insurance fraud is one use for these V5`s of course the other use is ringing a stolen car, the people selling these details need realize that the documents will be purchased and a thief will then wait until he finds a suitable car to use the numbers on(which could be another forum member).

Of course if anybody on here has their Escort stolen I will use every tool available to me to assist in recovering it.

                              • Regardless of how passionate anyone feels about this "potential" claim I do not for one minute think Hagertys will divulge specific details regarding who made the claim - so no point in asking !

I will monitor future posts within this thread and please keep any posts relevant to the subject in hand

I for one hope we can work with Hagertys in not only being able to insure our cars but also to help in "finding" any future "stolen" vehicles

So if anyone has a particular gripe with their insurance company or their tactics then please contact them direct
