How can you compare a 30 year old car with the modern day cars,we know modern day cars have power steering,ABS,air con,ESP,turbo,s electric windows,heated seats etc BUT your 30 year old motor is for the occasional trip out when others will wish they had one,and admire your motor for what it is ,a 30year old car in NICE roadgoing condition.They are not for everyday use,thats what your modern day car with all the bits on is for !If you cant afford to keep it OR appreciate it then sell !

I know the majority of this thread is 3 years old, but there is something to be learnt from it.
The statement that Escorts were crap 30 years ago is just silly.
FACT. Ford spent lots of time, effort and money developing the RS2000 into a fast, reliable and refined sports saloon, at a price that was affordable. Anyone who has owned a good standard one will confirm.
FACT. Any modification you make to enhance the performance (with very few exceptions), will have an adverse effect on something that was OK to begin with.
WHATEVER you choose to fit, be it hard bushes, springs, sports exhaust, tuned motor, bucket seats or furry dice, there will be SOME negative effect on the ride quality/ noise inside or outside the car/ comfort or, in the case of furry dice, visability out of the windows.
I am not knocking 'improvements' to your car, and indeed, I haven't got any standard cars at the moment, BUT, I have owned standard ones (RS2000 included) and very good cars they were.
Something that amazed me when I read it, was a guy on here building a 'trick' Escort, and he'd never even driven an Escort before!!!! The very best of luck to you if you're reading this, I'm not knocking it, but if it turns out crap, this guys view of Escorts will be a bad one.
So there, that's my opinion, and everyone's entitled to it
