    Interesting. I wonder if Motorsport Tools are using the newly made bodies from China for these?

    I don't have a problem with replica shells, but at £60K, I think its just for the motorsport guys.

      They are - and that was always the intended market - not restoration - which you couldn't do anyway because you are changing the chassis!

        Yes they are the china shell that Higgins inports ,,,I think motor sport tools sell prepared painter shells

                Not legally they can't! The registration is tied to the chassis number, therefore new chassis, new VIN, New registration mark. I am fully aware of Mini's and MGB's retaining re. no's - whether this is legal is debatable.

                As a 'new' car, with current year registration it will be down to emissions so using 'old carb'd engines will probably end up with big V8 Merc's and Audi's - £500 odd / year or about 2.5x what an original pinto engined car would be!

                  It is completely legal. The body shell is just a part of the car and can be replaced. Any car that is reshelled can be done with a replacement body and as long as the old shell no longer carries the ID it can be transferred to the new car. Yes you can stamp the numbers in as long as it it to the same type as the old shell. Its all covered in the DVLA information on the .gov pages.
                  It is illegal to restamp a shell that has been used on a previously registered vehicle. And there will be far more of them about.

                      VED would be calculated on the engine used. It will depend on the way the car is presented for the test. I suspect they are going to create a model type that can be used for subsequent cars built. Which means it has a basic type approval for the spec of car they have built. So what ever the emissions of the engine they use will determine the VED as per the normal tax brackets for a new car of that emission bracket.
                      But if it’s done as a single vehicle iva it will go on the engines build date emission data. So use a pinto from 1973 and it’s emmison check exempt but falls into the same VED as the old system. But if it’s a duratec the it will go by the date for that.
                      All the info is listed on the dvla site for iva test.
