If anyone is scared about the strength of the new complete shells they could always buy this genuine RS (without i.d.) and get a good safe original car
I just read through all this, some good opinions, some strong opinions too!
I have been contemplating a new shell from MST (Motorsport Tools - are these the same ones people have been discussing?) for my RS2000 restoration/rebuild.
Has anyone any direct experience of build quality? The disclaimer on the MST website doesn't fill me with confidence! Like all pattern parts i expect some fettling to be required...I guess it's a question of how much.
Probably said above somewhere - they are a 'replication' of a mk2 escort shell not an exact copy and were designed to be used for rallying replacements. I would imagine a fair amount of fettling will be required as anyone who has turned a well used rally car back to a road car will attest to! You'll get a good solid car but it won't be original nor concourse at the end!
I think it would be more than possible to get one of these shells to concourse level. Here's some pics I took of the Higgins shell at Santa Pod in 2017.
