DVLA Thieves

As some may know I recently aquired a SA Import and recieved the correct DVLA log book in my name

Since the purchase it has been locked away in the garage and not on the road

Recieved a nice letter from DVLA today saying I am being fined £100 for not declareing SORN and not insuring it

Yes but think of all that money they've spent trying to catch you on the road without tax!!! They've got to recover that money somehow…

Should say it has laid up insurance only so still not allowed on the road and it is taxed as thats free cant understand the issue ??

I don't think laid up insurance flags up on the Insurance data base and you had to apply for the "Tax Free" tax last time I had something of that age.

correct, you would of need to either SORN it when you got the new V5 or put road cover on it.
have you informed your insurance company about the UK reg on the car as well?

Could always try and ring them explain about the insurance to see if it makes any difference to the fine,
Might not make a difference with the sorn issue though
