I know exactly were you are coming from, I too have lost interest due to some of the aspects mentioned here. My car has been off the road for the past three years, I've got other interests and things to do these days and I can't say that I have missed the scene much! The extortionate price of some parts have now put a real damper on my interest, every greedy soul has bought up every NOS part he can find and this has left the restorer little choice other than to buy parts at crazy hiked up prices, rendering some restorations uneconomical, a far cry from the days when I was able to buy parts at list price from over the Ford Spares Counter! I've no doubt that tons of these desperately needed old parts are sitting in peoples garages just nicely accumulating value and gathering dust. Having said all that, I made great friends with many and have missed seeing them over the past years. My car is part of my life which takes me back to my younger and better days when the ordinary guy in the street or the true down to earth enthusiast was able to afford these cars! They have now become cars for the rich and the very very greedy! This is where we differ though as my car stays were it is until I'm ready to go out in it again, although like the EU it's a good thing to have a change, and restore some fresh interest in life ....so Good Luck and enjoy your Porsche!

To right, Kev. A mate and I were talking about it all a while ago. The Ford RS was the working mans sports car - affordable to buy, run and modify, and keep up with the more expensive cars. Not now. Now they are a rich mans investment. WTF is that all about!

This is the problem I have. I have a thoroughly shagged 1973 Mexico and can't realistically afford to rebuild it. The shell is beyond redemption so I'm waiting to see if Magnum ever do a complete brand new shell for sensible money but.......

My own fault for not doing it sooner! But when built, it's still at high risk of being stolen.

As for values, 30 grand for a nice RS2000 can almost be justified by looking at the prices of new cars - and what they're worth after five years ( bugger all). But I still think of them as being £2500 out of Auto Trader.

Here is a scenario that I never thought would happen!!
I am selling a Twincam at the moment and asked around to see what would be a sensible price to put on it.
30 k was suggested so I put it up for 30k or near offers.
Guess what has happened! I have had calls from people saying what is wrong with the car being advertised at that cheap??????
You can't really win can you?

There was a TC for sale at the NEC last year for £65'000 and I believe it sold. A V5 is 5 grand these days, assuming you can find one. Considering you could build a TC from scratch to a good standard for @ £30'000, that's not bad wages!

Some would say Escorts were undervalued for too long which is why so few survive. The values increased at about the same rate as modern cars got ever more tedious.

Prices are out a bit there... Panel work alone (if you can get it) paint and a1 trim would be over 30k that's without the donkey..and it'll always be a triggers broom
