  • Silver on Black number plates

What is the thing with "Silver on Black" number plates is it to try and make your cars look older ?
All vehicles manufactured after 1 January 1973 must display number plates of reflex-reflecting material, white at the front and yellow at the rear, with black characters. This type of reflecting plate was permitted as an option from 1968:

The police round here, seam to be strict on this issue, not many have black and silver number plates on for long. Unless it's correctly age related.

                              Seemingly not!

Taken from the latest newsletter of the FHBVC.

                              Non-Reflective Number Plates

At every meeting with DVLA we learn something completely new! In this case it is that the end date for black and white (or silver and white) number plates is linked to the historic tax class date. So we were told that non-reflective plates are now permitted on vehicles built before 1 January 1975.
